bookmarks that have expired

Not being able to cut or sew has left me with time to do goofy things! How often do you check on all the sites you've bookmarked over the years? Quite a few of mine are obsolete... wondering where did they go...off to facebook.... out of business.. new name ? :p

I actually discovered the same thing when I went to actually make something I pinned on Pinterest. The one I was looking for was a blog post and the blog had disappeared. I was finally able to find the original post by using the Wayback Machine.

So many sites seem to have disappeared . I didn't think bookmarks had an expiry date. Learn something new daily.

I use the Wayback machine all the time. I can usually find a quilt pattern that use to be free online but disappeared from the site.

Every so often I try to go back through all my bookmarks to delete the ones that aren't good anymore...but I don't do it as often as I should!

The Wayback machine is actually an archive of internet pages. When something is deleted, or moved, the link/bookmark may not work anymore. But when something is deleted from the internet it isn't usually completely gone, it is saved somewhere but the normal link doesn't work anymore. Named of course after Peabody's machine from the old cartoon. Here is a link to the page: http://archive.org/web/

Glad to help, considering what I paid for DS's education it had better come in handy. Well I do have onsite tech support.

Thanks! I needed this! It counts as my "one new thing" for today, as well.
