I hope that ya'll aren't getting tired of bow tuck purses. I just finished my first one. Knowing I was completely out of my element and a little unsure about myself, this project was my "tester" because I want to give some as gifts for the holidays.

My question is: What do you use for the bottom piece? I didn't have any cardboard. I googled masonite and it looked like pieces of wood. I was unsure of matteboard. So I went to the local hardware store and bought one of those stick-on laminated floor tiles. They were 0.28 cents each!

I used my rotorary cutter to cut the tile - I hear the groans now - to the size needed. The tiles are 12x12 so it made it easy to measure. I took two pieces, pulled the paper off and stuck them together. Then I sewed a sleeve with a piece of fleece for padding. Slipped the floor tile into the sleeve and sewed it shut. Then I slipped the completed bottom in the purse.

Do you see a negative effect from using the floor tile as the bottom of the purse? It is not as light than matte board or cardboard, but not sure about masonite.

now I'm hooked on these purses and am fixing to go make another one! Oh..I will post a pic when DH comes home. Techology like taking pictures and getting them to the computer does not like me and it never works for me.

I use needlepoint plastic.

I just used 1 thickness of the floor tile. Stuck it to some scrap fabric, then made a pretty sleeve that matched the BT. It is a really cheap way to do the bottom.:)

sounds like a good idea to me, I have made 4 bowtuck purses and still havent fixed the bottoms yet. Cant wait to see yours.

I use those plastic light weight cutting boards cut to the size you need.

I also use plastic canvas.Here's a bit more info about it.Can buy in any hobby dept...or on line.I've had this in a tote bag bottom for 6-7 yrs & no prob at all.

I use painters canvas...works very well...I get it at any hobby store and it is very cheap!

I use heavy cardboard...like that you get when you buy a pair of athletic shoes. It is fairly sturdy but lightweight. I would say, use whatever works for you!
