I have broken may toes over the years ( lots of other bones as well). Every time I have gone to the hosptial for the broken toe ... I sit ... wait and wait ... go and wait in x- ray... wait and after about 6 hours they say "well you broke your toe(s)" . Keep the them elevated , take asprin for the pain ( some offer a prescrition) ... and send me home. They don't even tape them anymore. I even rebroke two toes about 3 weeks after the first break ... same response .. ."elevate , keep off , take something for the pain".
I have usually felt some relief after about a week, but back to normal about a month. Lots depends on how old you are ... condion of the break etc.

It's been almost 3 weeks since it happened. I'm still limping in order to keep it as stationary as possible. I've always heard that they can't do anything for a broken toe and I have a high deductible insurance plan, so I'd basically have to pay for the x-ray. I can do it if it's really necessary. It's just very frustrating!

If I had not had anything done with it, it would have been a bother for ever.

Mine never healed right either. It was the middle toe. However, I waited a few days before seeing a doctor; they then xrayed it and showed it broken. Dr put it in a splint but the damage was done, it never was the same. Healed crooked. :thumbdown:

I broke both pinkie toes, with in weeks of each other. Broke one, then cause Im limping everywhere stumbled and broke the other. Thats when I went to the Dr. Said there is nothing they can do. No cast, no splint, just stay off of it and it will heal. But it took MONTHS. Not weeks. It, I say it, but it was really THEY were sore for months. Got to where I could walk on them, but not bend them and put pressure. Honestly it felt like they were never going to get better.
and for a fun Ewwwwww... the one was purple and yucky swollen. That the nail fell off..So much fun. I don't ever want to do that again.

So sorry this has happened to you. I do hope you can afford to go to a specialist and be checked out. If finances truely are a huge issue, then I understand why you don't want to go. It might be a long time healing if it is either sprained or broken. Try to keep it up as much as possible

I have broken many toes. they just take awhile to heal just like any other bone. Taping may make it feel better. Also heat or ice.

It took my litttle toe a couple of months to completely heal when I broke it. Doc told me to wrap that part of my foot to help it stay immobilized. Very painful and colorful. Try icing it down for 15-20 minutes several times a day to help with swelling and pain. Good luck!

for some reason, toes are easy to break. Its been the only part of my body I seem to easily injure. I never went to the Dr for it cus my mom broke toes when I was young and all he did was tape the broken one to the next toe in line that wasnt.
soooo, thats all I do. If your toes are in line (or even just 1) take some white tape (bandage adhesive?) and gently tape them to the next toe that isnt hurt nice and straight.
Now, if you cut them bad you really need a dr to check them. Hubs cuts his quite frequently (a guy thing) and had had to have tendons sewn up. If you wait on it, the tendons shrink (I think thats what they called it)- and it makes it harder to fix. sharet
