over there we were not discouraged from picking bananas. or other frutas.

Sounds like more tourism development might not be so good for the local economy. You'd have more urban poor.

Yeah, not to mention the palmetto bugs there and I'm sure other kinds. Plus the humidity. Florida is not for me.

Which reminds me, how was the humidity - and the temperature - in the Dominican Republic?

while we were there, it was in the high 80's with little humidity. but the humidity was rising by the time we left. we found it very comfortable and i do NOT like humidity.

Oklahoma Suzie 01-01-2010 04:17 AM

what's to take?

Oklahoma Suzie 01-01-2010 04:18 AM

They like to do things the old way?

Oklahoma Suzie 01-01-2010 04:21 AM

the girls and boys are about even. they get used to doing things the old way and learning a new way is of no great advantage, so why bother. the cookstoves work just fine and their cooking is very simple. they don't really need a bulky stove for that. why use something that needs to be kept clean? and uses up propane gas. the gas is better used to make hot water on a single ring burner, if at all. when they make coffee they boil the water on their stone cooktops. that's how they heat bathwater.
