Buckrum for men's ties

Has anyone made a man's tie? What did you use for the inside? The store bought one's have a buckrum inside, but I don't know where to buy it or what weight I should use. Any help would be appreciated.

I was going to give you a link to millinery supply company but it appears their website it gone. If you can find a place that sells millinery supplies, you can get buckram. Hancocks used to have it in some of their stores. Sadly, they're gone.

I would look for a good feel of a woven interfacing.

Thanks. I"m going to try to remember that.

Joanns carries buckrum. Also, you can simply use 1 or 2 layers of interfacing if you want it firm but not stiff.

I have purchased buckrum at JoAnn's, so I'd check there for it. I've made one men's tie, my son's girlfriend wore it to work and it won the Ugly Tie contest. Never did do another.

One son likes craft felt [72"] in his ties it is thicker, the other likes a soft thin batting like interfacing I get at Joanns.
No need to cut on the bias.

If I remember correctly, the name is "nainsook." My spelling may be off, of course. When I used to make my own ties, I got the fabric at Hancock's. Since they are gone now, I would recommend finding a specialty fabric center that would carry more designer fabrics. The first one that comes to mind is High Fashion here in Houston. I don't recall seeing the fabric at any of the JoAnn's or Hobby Lobby stores.
