But Honey, It's just like quilting...

I haven't been on the board much for the last couple of months as we are refinancing the house & finishing the bathroom remodel was my primary focus. So everyone thinks I'm nuts with the detail I've been doing on the tiling in the shower but I kept thinking "it's just like quilting". I start trying to describe how I'm going to put the design blocks on point with this or that border and my DH shakes his head "so much more complicated than it had to be"... But seriously, it's so similar to quilting that this is my favorite part of the remodel. Cutting tile is a lot tougher than cutting fabric but luckily, the grout allows for those "uneven seams". :) My hands are now so rough from all the tile & cement work that I dare not touch certain fabrics for fear of snagging them & there's no way to put on nylons... Enough fun - back to work!

You Rock!!! I love your lay out, colors. and that you are doing it yourself!

owlvamp 02-03-2013 02:04 PM

Very nice. I love what you did.

sewingsuz 02-03-2013 02:06 PM

Your tile is outstanding. If you had to pay someone for that it would be very expensive. Great Job!

My husband is in the middle of redoing our Master bath including putting tile in the new shower and around the jacuzzi tub. I wouldn't even begin to suggest your complicated layout, but it looks marvelous. He does the construction and I quilt.................we have an even trade LOL

Stunning bathroom tile! My son lays tile and he says Kudo's to you!

I too like to tile. For my birthday I got a tile cutter. I have tiled my bathroom, kitchen etc floors plus back splashes. It's just like sewing. I even made a pattern to go around things. But it is hard on the hands, but a lot if fun.

mary quilting 02-03-2013 04:32 PM

its beautiful. I did me bathroom about two years ago with same colors and a chocolate insert it toke a long time but it is worth it .

KwiltyKahy 02-03-2013 05:03 PM

beautiful, do you hire out? Our bathroom could use some remodel.

Painiacs 02-03-2013 05:38 PM

Great job! Great eye! Saving money but not having to hire someone and getting your " quilt fix" priceless! :-)

MaryStoaks 02-03-2013 08:19 PM

Beautiful work! You did good!!!

mountain deb 02-03-2013 09:58 PM

Ooookay, anyone else see a quilt in that mess. Blocks on point and borders. lol

earthwalker 02-03-2013 10:03 PM

Very cool...and I know how difficult working with tile is. My husband always lays tile in diamond patterns.....more tricky, but worth all the effort.

JanieH 02-04-2013 05:37 AM

Beautiful work! I really like your colors and pattern!

BLTrip 02-04-2013 05:45 AM

That's AWESOME!! We have just this last two weeks had our master shower re-tiled due to leaks. It has taken the tile guy so long!! Your's is SO MUCH more complicated!! I can truly appreciate all the time and effort in yours!! Ours was just straight with two decorative borders. No on points. Yours is amazingly detailed!! Congratulations!! Looks like you used the right waterproofing too! (something our previous tile guy did not and hence the reason for the re-do).

BuzzinBumble 02-04-2013 05:52 AM

So impressive that you could do that without an apprenticeship of some kind! I bet your hubby likes it all now that he sees the end result!
here's a trick for soothing and speeding the healing in your poor hands: Each night rub in a cream with a high aloe vera content. Then rub on a layer of Bag Balm. Next put your hands in either cotton socks, or if you have them, cotton gloves. (You don't have to leave them on all night, just a couple of hours). A few nights of this and you will be able to put on pantyhose without snagging them.

Bueniebabe 02-04-2013 07:25 AM

come do a shower for me, it's beautiful

Caswews 02-04-2013 08:35 AM

Very nice .. be sure to soak your hands in your favorite hand lotion when you are done !LOL Oh wear the cotton gloves to bed after you have soaked them !LOL

carolynjo 02-04-2013 09:17 AM

Your bathroom is a work of art. A nice warm quilt.

oldbalt99 02-04-2013 04:13 PM

Go girl, glad to see you can take what you learned in quilting and beautify your home.

damaquilts 02-05-2013 09:05 AM

It's beautiful and if it is harder than a simple design it will also be something you will love forever so .. I have laid tile on a flat surface but haven't tried on a verticle. :)

mom-6 02-05-2013 10:06 AM

So it takes a little (or a lot) more time and effort - the results are definitely worth it!!!

Grama Lehr 02-05-2013 10:08 AM

MonaMcC 02-07-2013 09:38 AM

I know exactly what you mean! I LOVE doing tile work, making stained glass projects - really anything that you have to put things together to make something. The end result is so pleasing every time you look at it. You did a beautiful job on the tile work.
