Butterflies, butterflies EVERYWHERE!!
There's a tree or a couple trees in the neighbors yard that just has hundreds of butterflies that always flock to it. I was outside and noticed all of them and HAD to go and get some pictures. They come out black, but they are actually a dark, dark purple. They fly all over my yard, but don't go into the trees here like they do across the street.

Here they are coming in for a landing. Look close...all the dark spots are butterflies.

Oh my gosh Terri! Your photos are So pretty! I love butterflies, but have never seen purple ones like that, i guess you really are living in paradise :)

tlrnhi 04-28-2009 09:48 PM

Barb, I usually have a few try to dive bomb me on the way to my mailbox. I told Courtney to run in the house and change her shirt into something with alot of colors on it so they would land on her, but she wouldn't. I have had a few land on my shoulders at times. Guess they get tired of flying and just need a short ride. lol

I think tomorrow while I am out and waiting for Courtney to get out of work, I'll bring my big camera with me and take some shots. It's supposed to be a nice day, so will hit the beach. Maybe can find a sea cucumber and get it's picture. So, I guess I should bring the underwater camera too, huh?

Barb M 04-28-2009 09:49 PM

Wow! And i hardly ever even see butterflies here!

BlueChicken 04-28-2009 10:29 PM

But no one NEEDS to know that! ;-) We'll keep it our little secret! LOL

I'll bet that looks gorgeous!

You're taking your underwater camera to the beach? Do you think you will find a humuhumunukunukuapua'a to take a picture of?

I dunno Celeste. I might find a trigger fish. lol I'm not planning on swimming, just maybe wading in the water a bit. If I do, will leave the big camera hidden in the van and take the underwater one with me.
Hopefully it will be a nice day. It's rained on and off today. We needed it. My yard is brown and ugly!

Shadow Dancer 04-29-2009 04:03 AM

amma 04-29-2009 09:38 AM

Beautiful pictures! We always planted our butterfly bushes to help attract them in the yard, but never had that many at a time

Knot Sew 04-29-2009 11:55 AM

Do you have he same trees in your yard? Maybe they don't want to be et by the chicken in your trees :D those are very different from ours here

sewjoyce 04-29-2009 11:58 AM

tlrnhi 04-29-2009 03:31 PM

I don't have any of the same trees in my yard that they congregate to in the neighbors yard. They do fly to some of the flowers in my yard.
No clue what kind they are, they are just pretty.

littlehud 04-29-2009 07:11 PM

mimisharon 04-29-2009 08:00 PM

Bright spot in my day Terri, thank you! I have watched the Monarchs flying around my azaleas and other blooms. It's just wonderful when they land on you, isn't it. There's no weight, just that little flutter!!!

Thanks for reminding me the spirit flies like the butterfly!

Hugs,
Sharon

Guilty as charged!! I collect butterfly fabric, and have gone to some extremes to add to my growing stash. eBay is my favorite hangout. My avatar says it all!! :-)

The pictures are beautiful! They are a beautiful creature, and always make me smile. Thanks for sharing.

Love the pics.

reneebobby 04-30-2009 02:03 AM

Nice pictures Terri They are pretty neat looking. Okay I'm waiting on the sea cucumber, since I have no idea what it is.

tlrnhi 04-30-2009 02:11 AM

It rained all day today, so I didn't get out to get pictures. I got as far as taking Courtney to work, then back home to get some things done, but power went out all day. UGH!

A sea cucumber looks like a long blob. They are mainly full of water and if you step on them, they squish....EW!

sandpat 04-30-2009 04:57 AM

Oh gosh....have you been dancing on the beach....stomping on cucumbers??????

No, no..LOL.. you only eat the muscles that run lengthwise. Pull them off, cut up, fry in butter and they taste close to abalone. Honest! We had them lots when we went diving in the Pacific Northwest.

sandpat 04-30-2009 03:36 PM

Sorry Lori...that just does NOT sound good, but then I wouldn't eat jellyfish either...now oysters....thats a whole 'nother ball game..yummy!!!

Bill'sBonBon 04-30-2009 04:00 PM

OHHHH How Beautiful!!!!!!!!!! Thank You for the enjoyment. Love them.
