What a fun day! Hasbro Canada has been running a competition over the past few months with citizens voting for their communities to 'win' an place of honour on their new Canadian version of Monopoly ... we won! Yes, our lovely "Chatham-Kent" managed to rally enough votes to take the top prize

Chatham-Kent is the amalgamation of the city of Chatham and its surrounding county (Kent), pop about 107,000, located an hour from either Windsor or London, along the Hwy 401 corridor.

The press release: http://www.chatham-kent.ca/council+a...Number+One.htm

Whoot whoot!

How exciting!!! Since you're from Canada and talking about games, do you know what card was removed from Trivial Pursuit when it was released in the US? It had already been released in Canada before it came here. Knowing who was the US president when it was released here will help.

What a fun question! I was even of the generation playing TP when it first arrived :) I don't remember any press on this when it was released, but did find an article in the New York Times,

>>> “How many months pregnant was Nancy Davis when she walked down the aisle with Ronald Reagan?”

That question appeared in the Baby Boomer edition of the game in Canada, but was removed before the edition was available in the United States.

(Two and a half.)<<<

Sad note to the story - it was prompted by the death of one of the Canadian inventors of TP, Charles Haney. From http://www.nytimes.com/2010/06/06/we.../06murphy.html

The press releases talk about it being released and available across Canada ... so maybe will only be available in 'the great white north' :)

Besides the simple motivation for having the contest as a marketing campaign, Hasbro did the competition celebrating the 75th anniversary of Monopoly.

It's an interesting social observation of small community ability to rally the troops and have lots of uptake in participation - I've seen it many times - in small groups, everybody has to roll up their sleeves to get stuff done. In larger groups, people figure someone else will do the work. <stepping down from soapbox>

From their press release ...
The following 22 cities earned spots on the MONOPOLY: Canada Edition game board, and are listed with the highest rent properties first:

- Dark Blue: Chatham-Kent, Saint-Jean-Sur-Richelieu
- Green: Calgary, Sarnia, Edmonton
- Yellow: Windsor, Quebec City, Trois-Rivieres
- Red: Medicine Hat, Gatineau, Shawinigan
- Orange: Kawartha Lakes, Chilliwack, Montreal
- Magenta: Kelowna, North Bay, St. John's
- Light Blue: Ottawa, Toronto, Vancouver
- Brown: Beauceville, Banff
