Can't believe I said that!!

Dear Canadian cousin coming to town for her bi-annual visit on Monday. We have all our Fabric Depot coupons ready to go!!

Discussing what she was going to look for, her future projects, etc and I blurted out "I don't really need any fabrics." :o

Dead silence. I feel like I've been kicked out of the family!! How many times have you heard anybody say that?? But I have lots of projects that I'm enjoying now. (May look at the new Laurel Burch horse fabric though.)

quiltstringz 10-02-2014 08:54 AM

I have actually said that recently and hope I keep saying to myself

Chasing Hawk 10-02-2014 08:55 AM

My husband gave me a look the other day because I didn't need anything from JoAnn's.

Then he asked if I was sick...lol

tessagin 10-02-2014 09:02 AM

BUT do you "want" any fabric? Big Difference! LOL!!

quiltsRfun 10-02-2014 09:21 AM

Reminds me of a conversation I had with DH when we were attending a quilt show recently. As we came upon a large (and gorgeous) display of fabric he asked me if I "needed" any fabric. I quickly reminded him that "need" had nothing to do with it and a fellow quilt show attendee chimed in to back up my statement. LOL

IrishNY 10-02-2014 09:25 AM

I say it....but I don't mean it. :)

Kitsie 10-02-2014 09:47 AM

I'll check in on Tuesday and let you know what I didn't buy! After all this is my annual present from my DC!

bearisgray 10-02-2014 09:50 AM

Need and want are two very different things!

JenniePenny 10-02-2014 10:16 AM

Let us know how much fun you have buying something pretty.

DebbieJJ 10-03-2014 03:53 AM

I say it -- and I mean it -- but I can't stick to it when I see fabric that I'd love to have, so I "try" to stay out of the vicinity of any fabric except my own! It also helps that I'm on a limited income right now!

Tartan 10-03-2014 03:57 AM

You can stock up on backing, batts and thread. I am trying to use my stash as well but I am always short on those.

Jeanne S 10-03-2014 04:53 AM

I too have enough to keep me busy for a long time. But that doesn't stop me from looking and buying more...this really is like an addiction....sigh.

quilttiger 10-03-2014 04:54 AM

I "shop" my stash first before buying new fabrics. It's called "cashing in my investments." :o

Can hardly wait till Tuesday Kitsie.

I certainly don't need any more fabrics and keep telling myself that. I mostly buy remnants of some I already have or small amounts of some I think will go with some I have. Always good to have a variety for scrappies.
I'm sure you will find something you 'need'.

institches33 10-03-2014 05:36 AM

I say that at every shop hop and later need help getting my purchases on the bus. Oh well.

willferg 10-03-2014 06:57 AM

I never thought I'd ever say that, but now that I have enough, I say it. So for those of you who can't say it and are still shopping, I guess it proves that you don't have enough fabric yet!

KwiltyKahy 10-03-2014 07:55 AM

Operative word is need. LOL

KwiltyKahy 10-03-2014 07:58 AM

But it is still cheaper than therapy.

I'm with Chasing Hawk. My Dh handed me the coupons from Joanne's. and asked what I fabric I was going to buy. He looked at me as if I had two heads when I said I didn't need any fabric. Thought the poor man was going to have a heart attack as I said that. LOL

sylviasmom 10-03-2014 08:06 AM

I buy fabric I don't need all the time!! It's just a bad habit I can't break. Sometime I buy it because it's for block exchange at guild, or fat quarter exchange and then find I can't part with it. Shame on me! :D

Susanna10 10-03-2014 08:31 AM

Always look at the Laurel Burch fabric!!!!!

Do any of us 'need' more fabric -Probably not. BUT it would be a sin to waste those coupons. And you don't want to sin, right! Have fun

IrishgalfromNJ 10-03-2014 09:21 AM

That sounds like something I would say because I usually don't buy any fabric unless I have a project in mind. If I buy fabric just because I like it, I end up with a lot of stuff I never use that doesn't really go with anything else. Hope you have fun shopping.

quiltstringz 10-03-2014 09:26 AM

I was on a site the other day (can't remember which one) but it had painted across a wall "My husband said if I brought any more fabric home he was leaving, I'm going to miss him"

cathyvv 10-03-2014 09:30 AM

When I buy a fabric it's seldom out of true need. I have so much fabric that it is unlikely that I will ever use it all. But I still love to look and buy - it's chicken soup for my soul.

dellareya 10-03-2014 12:50 PM

I have a friend who constantly says "I don't need any more fabric" She is serious and doesn't normally buy a darned thing.
I don't even know why she goes "shopping" with us or goes to quilt shows with us. She is Debbie Downer.

Kitsie 10-03-2014 03:58 PM

Me, too, Irish! Twice I bought some just because I liked it. that was 4 yrs ago and its still in the closet! However I loved shopping with my daughter for fabric for the one I'm making for her and will love shopping with my cousin for one she and I will make while she's here! (In both cases, they are paying!) I'd much rather go to the store to buy new fabric for a new project that to go raid my closet again.

IBQUILTIN 10-03-2014 07:37 PM

I seem to always need just one fabric to finish out a project, and when I get home with it I always seem to have at least 4 or 5. Do my needs grow. or do my "wants" grow?

madamekelly 10-03-2014 07:42 PM

I have only to make it to December 31st, and I will have gone one year without buying ANY fabric. I did inherit some, and was gifted some by others, but for the first time ever I will have kept my New Years resolution! Yay me!

Oistin 10-04-2014 07:25 AM

Usually the ones that says they don't need any fabric when going on a shop hop are the ones who buy the most. Lol. Ask me how I know.

Keep going! I tried that, but it's been a tough year with things happening in my family, so fabric therapy has been the way to go. I will try again next year.

jojo47 10-15-2014 08:38 AM

I've enjoyed reading these posts. :) I, too, make promises to myself about not purchasing more fabric until I've used (some) of what I have...yea, right! This summer when I visited my sister in MT(she works in a quilt shop part-time), I came home with MORE fabric...but it was on sale AND it coordinated with FQs and charms I have here at home, so I have projects I can work on through the winter! Right now I'm waiting for a call from my LAQ that she has 2 quilts finished for me...I'd had that particular fabric for a couple of years before I ever got at it, and there were enough remnants that I am making a smaller quilt for the little brother of the boys these completed quilts will go to. :)
