I know this is silly, but when I put a new post on, and someone answers, I have to look over where it says how many looked. I always wonder who looked and how come they did not say anything. I do the same thing myself, so why do I wonder at that. 17/185. Seventeen answered from 185 who looked.

Tell me to stop thinking about it.

sueisallaboutquilts 07-03-2010 06:10 AM

How can you tell how many looked??

thequilteddove 07-03-2010 06:11 AM

There are so many posts it would fill up an entire day just to respond to them :) As it is, it takes half the day reading them lol

Up North 07-03-2010 06:12 AM

A lot of times if I am following a post, I check back without commenting again. I am always looking for hints and tips do do a lot of looking.

Boston1954 07-03-2010 06:12 AM

In the column called Author/Posts/Views. There are two numbers like this - 22/176. The first is how many people answered and the second is the total of how many looked.

erstan947 07-03-2010 06:13 AM

I do not respond a lot. Often I don't have an answer or someone has already posted the answer I would have given. Also the Lurkers can not post til they sign up (at least that is my understanding). I am not trying to ignore anyone. Keep posting.

RatherB Quilting 07-03-2010 06:13 AM

Stop thinking about it! It means that 185 smiled for the day, but only 17 people had a clever comment about it! :)
I admit I obsessively check my posts too...but I don't pay much attention to the "looked at" numbers...I wait in anticipation for the "comment" number to go up, then gleefully check to see what wisdom or comisseration my quilty friends have for me.

Boston1954 07-03-2010 06:15 AM

I do the same type of thing, but sometimes the other number is so large.....

You're right though. I guess the lurkers just read and cannot say anything.

b.zang 07-03-2010 06:16 AM

Ever hear the saying "if you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything at all"?

Sometimes I look and think that others have already said what I might, and I'm not a clutter person, so don't add to what's already there. You'll never find my initials on tables, or name on walls either, as there isn't that need to say "I was here".

Maybe you want to spend some time with the watch/unwatch button and e-mail notifications section and turn everything off. Then, what you don't know won't bother you.

Boston1954 07-03-2010 06:18 AM

The funny thing is, I am not even sure that it bothers me. I just wonder about it. I guess I think too much.

Okay, Anne. Get into the sewing room!!

Up North 07-03-2010 06:19 AM

The only time I have paid attention to the looked at # was when I asked a question but figure others are looking for the answer too. Never had it bother me.

Ah, that's right. Yes, you are being silly. Don't worry, we all love ya :D:D:D

Pam 07-03-2010 06:23 AM

I used to try to read everything, everyday. I no longer do that, holy cow, there are a lot of people on here. How can we come up with something witty for each one? I do try to look at all of the pictures and welcome all new members. I still need time to sew and have a life. This sure is a fun place to come and see everyone, that is for sure.

cminor 07-03-2010 06:29 AM

I often look but don't reply. I guess maybe because because I often don't have anything good to say since I am still so new :) I do the same thing with looking and wondering why so many look and don't reply.

I will try to be better :)

littlehud 07-03-2010 06:33 AM

Sometimes what I would say or answer is already there. It does make you wonder sometimes though.

bj 07-03-2010 06:35 AM

The two main reasons I don't respond are: 1) I have nothing new to add, it's already been said, and 2) I can't answer their question. It doesn't seem helpful to say I don't know.

Me, too.

isnthatodd 07-03-2010 07:20 AM

Me 3

sharon b 07-03-2010 07:42 AM

Well now I couldn't leave here without adding a comment  LOL

A lot of times the question may have been answered , so what more can you say.

Boston1954 07-03-2010 07:44 AM

When you're right you're right. Okay. I will try to stop thinking about it and go do something constructive. 8-)

Up North 07-03-2010 07:47 AM

Ok so I looked again better comment huh? LOL

Me also!! :D

sewcrafty 07-03-2010 08:27 AM

A lot of times if the question has already been answered I move on. Sometimes I'll click on something that I find I can't help with either so I've move on then or sometimes say I can't help. Just a mood thing I guess, not to be taken personally at all. :-D

I agree, so many times I just peek at what's new and depending on my time and the mood I may respond or not. That is no reflection on anybody or anything. Just the way it is!! LOL!!

Luv Quilts and Cats 07-03-2010 08:56 AM

Stop thinking about it and start sewing. It will take your mind off it! LOL

fliedermaus 07-03-2010 09:00 AM

 Just looked at this thread, and although I have nothing to say, feel obliged to comment. I bet there're loads of lurkers lurking and thinking *darn, I can't comment on that!*

Gramof6 07-03-2010 10:15 AM

I don't always answer because as others have said, My answer has already been posted by someone else. So why repeat it? :D Or I just don't know how to answer. :D I sure don't mean to be rude or uncaring. I do try to read as many of the posts as I can each day. This post of mine, here I am repeating what others have said. :D :D :D

Lisanne 07-03-2010 10:17 AM

My reasons:

1. Many people use "teaser" titles for their threads, so I look just to see what the thread is about. Yours is a good example. I had no idea whether your thread was about sex, the economy, or something that happened that day. Very often, once I've looked, I have no interest in the topic and so no reason to post a comment.

2. Like many others, I may be interested in the thread topic but not have anything valuable of my own to add.

3. I often check back when I'm interested in a thread. So I may post once, then look at it five or ten more times to see what else has been said - so you see 6 or 11 looks but only one reply for all of them. (And if I did post, I often check to see if anyone responded to what *I* said.)

4. Sometimes a thread is thought-provoking and I want to decide what to post, so I won't reply immediately. So you may see 2 views but only one reply in that case.

5. Frankly, sometimes I don't post because I'm censoring my words, knowing I'd only get into trouble for posting what I really want to say.

Everytime I reply I get a e-mail in my in box I'm sure you do to. Depending on how much time you spend on here its inpossialbe to say something on all of the one's I look at.

sally's girl 07-03-2010 11:45 AM

I "Just Read" more post than I reply to. I guess because I don't have anything constructive to say on the subject or how I feel or think about the post was expressed by someone else.

craftybear 07-03-2010 01:31 PM

Hugs, have fun on this board and also find time to sew!

ann clare 07-03-2010 01:39 PM

My 2 reasons for not replying are: 1.Somebody has given the exact reply that I was going to give after reading the topic. 2. I have not enough information to be of assistance.

QuiltingGrannie 07-03-2010 01:41 PM

I have found that the "how many looked' number includes how many time you actually looked at your own topic to see the replies. I thought the same thing you did for a while, how come so many looked and didn't comment. But when you consider that number is not just an indicator of different lookers, but includes repeat lookers who look back to see other posts etc.

Their should be a way to have it so that when you check your own post it doesn't count.

magpie 07-03-2010 03:38 PM

I don't post on all topics either. I second all the others reasons. Have you ever totted up the time you spend just reading. For example I was on early this am instead of weeding flower beds before it got too warm, looked at the clock and 2 hours had passed. Very enjoyably though. Now I'm here again tonight. It's just fun to read and learn. And the pics are just wonderful visual inspirations. I am totally new to quilting so have nothing to post yet, but do love looking. Just glad everyone shares their projects.

raptureready 07-03-2010 06:26 PM

Never even new that was there. I'm one of those people that "hit and run" sometimes I just want to check out a post and see what it really is (we have some creative titles that don't necessarily have a lot to do with what we are posting) and sometimes I just don't have anything to add to what's been said already. Sometimes I just click on them and then hit "unread topics" so that I can clear off my screen a bit. I wish there was a way that we could go onto and "next" page on the postings---especially if I've been away for awhile. Or maybe there is and I just don't know about it either.
