If you have carpul tunnel a few years is a long time! Having it done was the best thing I ever did. I occasionally have some trouble but nothing like before. See a hand man and get it done.

i had a mild case from crocheting - went to library & checked out book that had some exercises - that helped plus giving up crocheting for a while. still can't crochet for any long period of time. my sil had both hands operated on and never got back full motion in her hands - i think she was free from pain tho.

I had surgery on right hand about 10 years ago and the difference was amazing. I had the study on on left hand about a month ago, and confirmed that I have it there too. Was a waitress for 30 years, that's where mine came from. When symtoms first started I thought I was going to have a heart attack. Wear brace at night, if I don't I wake up in severe pain. Numbness almost all the time, but don't want surgery again. Yuck!!!
Try doing the brace, it may help. |
i had surgery on one of my hands and was suppose to have it on the other i am glad i did not have it on the other cause it came back but worse

I am a little late in replying but Thought I would reply anyway. I had the surgery in both of my hands by a very good sport surgeon then 2 yes 2 years later had Both hands done again by a hand surgen only lasted around a year both times. I suffer daily with this my dr wants me to try surgery again but I do not think it is worth it for me since for me it didn't last long

I had it in both hands. First the doc put me on antibiotics to fix the inflamation. then he told me to stop whatever I was doing with my hands. That meant typing, sewing, knitting etc. I was to get two sets of splints that go from the writst to my elbow almost.
I was to wear these at night. It was painfull and they tingled etc and I would hang my arms over the bed at night to get relief. Well I did everything he told me and did a research on the web for herbs that would also help. Once you understand that the in you wrist you have all these nerves, vein or tube like things and they all have to fit into this small tube. When the nerves get inflamed they swell and the tube gets tight and that is when the pain starts. Mine got better and that was 10 years ago. I wore those splints 24/7 and had two set and washed one, wore one. I then proceeded to study what I did with my hands when I did my crafts and have, over time adjusted my motions. I practiced these with the splints on. I did everything with those splints. Because of this training, I now knit, paint type with my wrist perfectly unmoving. I still pay attention to make sure tho. |
I too had carpal tunnel pain for over 20 years. Had surgery on both wrists last year and instantly no pain. When I had the nerve conduction test, I was told by my neurosurgeon and the neurologist that I had severe problem and without surgery I could expect extreme pain and 95% chance of frozen hands/fingers/wrists without the surgery. So I would advise having the conduction study done and then make up your mind about surgery.

Hi,
I had nerve study and surgery only to find that the pain came from ruptured disks in my upper back. Often the injections do help and was used first on me. I would get a second opinon as you are not totally comfortable with the plan of action. The nerve study is somewhat painful and expensive. Try several wrist braces and keep the receipt. It took me a while to find some I could work in and also sleep in. Blessings, Sharon |
I have not been diagnosed with it, but I have not gone in for it either. get the study done. I have known lots of people who have had the surgery and do fantastic after. I have been a dental assistant for I guess its 24 yrs know, and it is very common in my line of work. I have been disabled for almost two yrs, so I don't have insurance. So I won't be doing anything about that pain. Good luck and you will be in my prayers. God bless. Penny
