My daughters cat got a hold of one of my spools of thread and Im pretty certain it must of eaten some of it. He is throwing up clear liquid and is not acting his usual spunky self. Anyone ever have this happen to their cat??

He needs to go to the vet, he might have thread wrapped around his guts....

Yep your cat needs to go to the vet.
I just learned this past year after having cats for 15 that string and what not is very dangerous for them.
We ended up losing our cat - we originally though he had gotten some string lodged in his mouth/throat. Turned out to be cancer :( but we learned a lot and now are very careful with our (female) kitty when we play with her and anything involving string.

I don't know why cats love to eat thread. I have to really watch mine. They are also bad about eating the silver icicles off the Christmas tree; had to stop using those several years ago.

But when they eat icicles from the tree their poo is so sparkly!

Hope your thread eating kitty is ok. My cat's favorite spot to be with me is beneath the sewing machine. Luckily she doesn't nibble on threads.

I feel bad for Matrix..that is the cat's name. I think My Daughter and Son In Law are weighing the options because vet is saying going to be expensive. :(

It will no doubt be very expensive. Removal of 13" of red cord from our old Manx Butch Cassidy (GA) in the early 1990s was over $400.

Matrix is currently at the vet ... the vet could see the thread under his tongue.. going to sedate him and try to gently pull it out... if it wont come then will have to decide if we are going to go with surgery..they are estimating 1200 and up :( Im praying also...my daughter is in tears.. we will know something within the next hour. Thank you for the Kitty prayers :)

Oh my goodness! I hope the vet can pull it out gently so Matrix can go home with his family. I'm sure your daughter will make sure he won't be able to get at thread ever again!

to the VET now. mine ate a teeny tiny bit of polybatting and did that and ended up having a barium enema. that was fun. and another enema to clean him out. fixed that cat!! one reason mycats are not allowed in my sewing room now. too scary!!

Just got a update..they could not pull it out. Vet clipped the string where it was wrapped around the tongue. Waiting to see if he will pass it now that it is dislodged from the tongue. Hopefully it will..if not decisions will have to be made :((

Prayers he will be fine. Thank you for posting this! One of my cats ate some thick string and it passed some out of ... - I had to pull the rest. He is fine - but I am going to pay better attention.

I hope kitty does okay. Goodness, keep that stuff away from cats. Who knew they would chow on that stuff? My silly dog would only eat string if it was covered in gravy with added meat chunks. And warm. He's a little picky.

Here's hoping kitty escapes unhurt and doesn't cost his mom a bundle. The heartache is enough.

I hope he's ok. My cat, Henry, ate some elastic thread, and they had to operate to get it out. In the long-run I'm glad he had the operation because it gave him many more years of life. It happened about 5 years ago, and you would never guess how bad off he had been. Keep us updated on Matrix.

I guess I'm luck with the ever nosey Zipster.... he plays with things but the strangest things he likes is my cranberry juice or my soda.. havet o watch him like a hawk ovet my drink!

We brought Matrix back from the vet today..he made it through the night which is a good sign but he is not out of the woods yet. Vet said to watch him he wouldnt eat for them so they are hopin that by being home in his own environment that it might encourage him. We have had him home for six hours and he finally ate a small bit and drank on his own just a lil bit ago. So we are hopin that is a good sign and he will hopefully pass the rest of the string. Family has decided that we just cant afford the cost of the surgery.. so keep kitty prayers for Matrix please. I will continue to update everyone until we are hopefully out of the woods and Matrix is pronounced all better.

I'M glad to report that Matrix is doing much better. Still not back to 100 percent but he is out of the woods.. and will make a full recover. Thanks for all your kitty prayers everyone. Matrix says "Meow" puurr rumble purr rummble.. or something like that :thumbup:

Glad to hear he's recovering. But you'll still have to watch him - cats dont learn cause/effect.

Definitely we all will be watching him a lot closer. We set up a large dog kennel in my daughters room and he will always be in it when the door to my quilting room is opened. Thanks again everyone for your support and prayers.

Well, he just used up one of his 9 lives! Keeping a cat out of the sewing room is difficult; there are so many interesting things for them to get into! We can all learn a lesson from this.

zofja as a kitten ate an entire acme plastic bag. I was afraid it wrapped around any organs. I blessed her and slowly pulled the bag out. Kitty Angels were with her and the bag came out in one piece. Now I have to watch her all the time. She has taste buds for flowers, plastic bags, dead bugs. Everything but cat food.

Thank goodness it worked out! I had the same experience with a piece of yarn and my cat, fortunately I was able to slowly pull it out of his mouth, he was a little gaggy but we got the whole thing out in one piece. He's the first cat I've ever had that actually seeks out the string/thread/yarn so I keep that stuff put away when I'm not in my sewing room. My other cat had a passion for those rubber fingers you use when sorting papers. There was no place you could put them that she couldn't find them.

mine just likes to steal the spools...so glad they don't eat the thread!!

So glad Matrix is doing better...silly cat! Sometimes very oily sardines (people ones in the tin) are very good for getting things through their system.
