He just turned a year, found the hole just a few mins ago. Moved a desk in front of it to keep him from chewing more. Is there something in the wall he is going after? I am wondering where the pieces of drywall are - none to be found, did he eat them? He removed some paint and a like a few months ago in this same room.
He was a feral kitten 3 - 4 weeks old when I got him, handfed him etc.

My first thought was check with your vet.
My second thought is to look online and do
some research on cats doing that sort of thing.

I looked on line, there were things like mice in the wall from people having cats chew - but I don't have mice so maybe bugs? Cats have keen hearing.
His mom abandoned him after the dogs found him and his 3 siblings in the runway, he decided to crawl thru the fence and I had to go get him to put him back with the others.
I put a blanket out as it was chilly at night and they were on wet ground.
Also left a bowl of food out for mom, she ate and took off with the other 3 kittens leaving him behind. So I brought him in.

Sorry that I can't help with any advice. Many years ago, I met a person that told me when her Airedale was a puppy, she had to learn how to repair sheetrock. The puppy chewed through so many times, she just learned how to fix it.

One of my Shelties did that. SHe outgrew it though.

Seperation from who? I got him just over a year ago, he is in with another cat and the 2 dogs.

I agree, just made him a fast kick bag. Had seen them in catalogs for $6. Used scrap material, sewed up 3 sides and poured a bag of catnip into it, sewed the top and gave it to him. HE LOVES IT! Is going ga ga over this new item.

Just made a second bag, both cats are up in the window area licking the first one. I know I will probably have cat litter all over but oh heck, they only live once.
Note to self, put organic cat litter from Walmart on shopping list for next week!

Just because you have other animals for him to play with doesn't mean he isn't having separation anxiety from you! Do you have to leave him alone during the day? You did rescue him so he might be looking at you as his mother and having two mothers abandon him might be more than he can swallow (although sounds like he can swallow drywall, lol!). Anyway, that's my Cat Psychology lesson for the day, meow!

I got excited watching him play with the bag that I made for him.

One of my Cats is driving me crazy...he is usually so good...best cat I have ever had...5 years old...he wants to go out and is an indoor car, goes out on a leash...always has and does good...problem for the last week....including today he wants to go out all the time...woke me up at 1am today...no stop crying and digging at the furniture and rugs...he has never been like this. Hope he stops soon...love him to pieces...but he is tearing the place apart.

this sounds like he's detected a "lady friend" when he was outside and wants to go "play"

has he been checked for urinary tract infections?

Mr. Speckles chewing a hole in the wall is going to turn into being a good thing. I was talking to him a while ago, asking him what would be better, wood panneling half way up the wall, then a decor piece then either paint or wallpaper. He of course meowed, I said oh so you approve! This opens up a variety of different things for that room.

To repair drywall..smooth the sides of the hole but let the fronts be a little bit wider than the backs. Cut a piece of wood or cardboard a little bit bigger than the hole, put two small holes in the middle of it. Put a strong string or shoelace in it and tie it in front.

Slide this behind the hole and put a long piece of wood or knitting needle through the string and tie it till it holds the backing in place. You could put some glue on the wood so it hits the wall around the hole it so it will stick.

When glue is dry, start putting on the glop of whatever you want or can buy to fix it up. Smooth it till it matches the wall, but just a little bit out from the wall. When dry, remove strings, sand it down, and if necessary to fill hole the string left, do this now and when IT is dry, repaint.

I've done it several times with our many years of large, powerful Dobermans who playfully ran thorough the house and knocked large pieces of furniture against the walls.

I got My puppie in June shortly after I got done school for the summer I went back in September and she is now chewing on the pillows Vet says she is lonely I said she has a dog , three cats, and a 91 year old mother in law for company until I get home at 2 she cant be lonely but he says she is He may be right she doesnt do it on the weekends Is something new for your kitty

Seperation anxiety, because his Mom left him behind, some cats have amazing memories and remember a bad experience for the rest of their days.

I have 2 feral cats, 1- 15 yo and 1 - 10 yo., never chewed on anything, I found them both very young, inside cats, declawed all four feet. Not a problem with them, health or behavior.

? He gets rough when playing, so thought ok if he has his own bag, he will get rough with that instead of digging his claws into me. He used to try to climb my leg when he was a couple of months old, bloody legs for me.

Where I am now, they will only declaw the front feet, incase the cat gets out they can climb a tree I guess. My first cat had all 4 feet declawed and she still managed to get up to high places. Had to look up when you went into rooms as she loved to jump down on you.

Thanks, going to Lowes to get some patch material on Tuesday. The hole is an interesting place, right up under the ledge of the window sill. 1 - 1.5 inches wide by approx 3 - 4 inches long. Still have not located the drywall that supposedly came out of it. Not sure if he ate it (hoping not) or not.
I grew up around Dobies and Great Danes.
This is only my 3rd cat. My other cat is older, she was given to me when someone no longer wanted her at about a year old.
That was approx 7 years ago.
This kitty was left out in the cold, no food etc and I could not just let him die. He was covered with fleas, so he got 2 dawn dish soap baths, no more fleas and a gentle bath.
He seems to love to dig his claws into me when we play, ouch.
I tell him ouch no baby, no claws. Kitties.

Still have not located the drywall that supposedly came out of it. Not sure if he ate it (hoping not) or not.

When she started walking, my youngest daughter uprooted and ate the roots from some of my pot plants (not THAT kind of pot plant) inside the house. The doctor called it Pica and said she must have some sort of vitamin or mineral deficiency, and to keep poison plants out of the house but otherwise sprout some wheat or food grains for her. At that time, 50 years ago, this old German doctor was against a lot of the other doctors' theories, but after letting her eat sprouted grains for a few months, she stopped ruining my favorite house plants.

Drywall is Lime, which my nurseryman husband used to put on the garden and all plants we have. I don't think it will hurt him.

Maybe your cat is the same, lacking some mineral in his diet?
You could buy him sprouted wheat in grocery stores, I get one for my cats every 10 days or so and they graze on it like goats!
Also, maybe a drop now and then of some kitty vitamins and minerals.

Should he continue this, besides checking with the vet, you could spray the area with Bitter Orange, the taste of which most cats hate.

He may have a urinary infection.

Oh, I know the feeling...Our first Old English Sheepdog did that.
Came home to a HUGE hole. Took him to vet and the vet told us he had a vitamin deficiency. Got him on vitamins and problem solved.
