My DH has been telling me he saw in the news that the state of Iowa is going to ban all cell phone use while driving. I went online and all I can find is that Iowa has banned all texting while driving. Anyone know anything about this?

Any comments on your feelings about cell phones used while driving are more than welcome. I don't usually do it. I usually stop and use the phone. It annoys me to have to answer the phone while driving as I feel like I am juggling to do it. But my
DD lives on her phone with 3 kids with medical issues and one of them is her autistic son. She can only be reached on her phone. She is always on the go. So it would be a hardship for her.

Our state is hands free cell use. You can use the cell phone for calls, but must use a blue tooth or other device that is hands free.
All texting is banned while driving though... or you will get a DWT, driving while texting :wink:

Our state is a "hands free" state, but I see people with their hand stuck up to their head with their phone, even the POLICE. The government makes these laws but doesn't have the enforcement.

We went hands free starting today. I've been hands free for a while and never texted while driving--I don't know how they do it!

My state passed the law in June and it has made some difference I now use the blue tooth or hands free. Our law states we cannot have the phone up to our ear we can use the hands free devices. If you are seen with the phone to your ear you will get stopped and ticketed.
To make my point today a toddler died becasue a 17 year old was on the phone and hit a car stopped for a person in a crosswalk the car that was stopped was hit so hard that they hit the little girl and threw her it is heartbreaking.

In my state the police are exempt from this law.

While I feel for the hardship she may endure. A hands free device is what is needed. They have a system where the phone is heard through the speakers maybe that is an option for her. I carry a cell phone, but mine has an ear piece. I detest seeing drivers texting or talking while driving. I now have a permanent steel cage around my cervical spine because some lady was gabbing away while driving and rear ended me.
It only takes a minute to pull over and talk.

Here in Oregon, police, firemen ambulance drivers are exempt. So are people who conduct business on the phone. But this hasn't stopped the abuse of the law here. Anyone can say they are on the phone while driving and it concerns their job and get away with it.
I highly doubt a Mom with a van load of kids is doing business on the phone while the kids are jumping all over the van going down the street.

PA has a no texting while driving law & some counties have no cell use while driving at all. I was almost rear ended by a kid texting. I've had several other close calls by people talking on cell phones while driving.

How did everyone manage years ago when there were no cell phones? People have become obsessed with them. Unless you have a medical emergency I don't thnk they should be allowed while driving.

Occasionally I'll use the cellphone while driving - usually just if someone calls me (which is very rarely). Doing so can be dangerous if you're not careful, and I understand that, but I think texting while driving is MUCH more dangerous than using the cell phone to make a regular call.

If you're just making a call, you can keep your eyes on the road (if you can't keep your attention there too, then you need to pull over). If you're texting, you have to keep glancing down (or over, or whatever) at your phone and that is, IMHO, much deadlier.
