I have seen a similar quilt, also made by a man, also in hexes, in the Western KY Univ. museum.

Wow! That is truly amazing! It really struck me that he worked with rocks and dynamite by day and 1/4" hexies by night.
Chasing Hawk, your link filled out so much more of the story. Did you all see how diverse his interests were?
