Christmas cheer

I just had to tell you a story about my Christmas day. I work in a hospital and had to work Christmas day. Bummer. One of the hospital workers had an eight year old son who wanted to do something for the people who had to be in Christmas day. There is little and eight year old can do at the hospital so his mom told him to make cards for the people there. He made 18 and including a candycane with each. My last patient said his doc was going to try to get him out on Christmas day but his parents died when he was young....no brothers or sisters or other family so he never celebrated Christmas. I gave him the small homemade Christmas card at lunch. Had to adjust some things in his room and when I turned back to him he was crying. He told me it was the first Christmas card he had every received. It touched him and me. Brought home the feeling that Christmas is so much more then presents and a tree but is caring for all of our fellow man. I still sit here is amazement that a simple card of construction paper and crayons can made such a difference. It made my Christmas day.

The true meaning of Christmas. Sounds like a good theme for a Hallmark ad.

This is what Christmas should be about, not what commercial America is trying to sell from Halloween on. Stinks to have to work, but you witnessed a small Christmas miracle that you'll never forget.
