Christmas Day Quilting

Christmas Eve is always a mad house for us. It is one big Party at our house starting about 1 all our friends and family are invited. I am truly thankfull I have such a large house. Every fall Pa Pa takes out the tractor and cleans up the 1/2 mile sled run with jumps ( every one under 18 is required to wear helmets) We do have another hill about the same length for the less adventuras. it's called Gramie's run. LOL Some one always brings snowmobiles to pack the runs and haul kids up to the top. No cooking for me everything is pot luck, We supply all non Alchol drinks from soda's to water, hot chocklet, coffee, tea, juice your name it. At about sundown the fire pit is started and we pass out marshmellows, chocolate and graham crackers. When it gets too cold or wet we move inside and set up the board games. This party runs untill everyone goes home. usually around 11 at night. All kids are ready for bed. We don't see anyone extra on Christmas Day, go to church, than I get to hide away for most of it and do what I want (quilting of course) My DH will be watching TV most of the day. LOL Anyone else spending tomarrow quietly doing what we all love? I plan on finishing the binding on one quilt then starting my first needle turn project. OOPs I hear a snowmobile! That means DSI has arrived and unloaded his machine to start grooming the trails. Better get the first pot of coffee started. Merry Christmas to all!

I want to go to your house!!!! It sounds like fun!

Your festivities sound wonderful. We will be walking our neighborhood after our feast and enjoying the luminaries and lights.

We only have a daughter here in Delaware, so our Christmas is tonight Christmas Eve (her x gets the boys tomorrow at noon). Pizza and lasagne, first, at 2 PM, then later appetizers and junk food. Christmas day, we are sitting for a neighbor's 2 dogs. We were going to the movies to see "Lincoln" but one of the dogs is a 5 month old standard poodle, and she needs activity, so we are staying home. I hope to finished all the squares for a UFO now that we are staying home on Christmas. And do some hand quilting while watching the game (any game).

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays to all my QB friends!

That sounds like such fun! That's the kind of fun I miss by living in a state where we hardly ever have snow - bummer! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone.

What wonderful customs you have established. We usually have about 17 for Christmas dinner. Several years ago I changed the menu from turkey dinner to buffet. This way the kids can come when they can and I can play all the new board games with the grands. This years menu is chicken and dumplins, pulled pork, chili along with ham and turkey sandwiches chips and dips.
Merry Christmas
Enjoy your time with your family.

Sounds like fun! All of our family is far away and it is difficult for us to travel, so DH and I traditionally spend Christmas Eve and Day just hanging out together, quilting, watching movies and enjoying some quiet time. So I'll be joining you tomorrow at the machine!

Merry Gramie have a great time.

Our festivities are over and done since the kids are with their inlaws today and tomorrow. I'm okay with that, but ... am feeling a bit blue right now. I'm sewing, love being home, but ... I'm surprised by the bit of sadness I'm feeling! Tomorrow we'll take lunch to my mother - can't stand the thought of her being alone - and go to a movie. "Les mis" is what we'll see. So .. Merry Christmas to all .. full of family or full of peace and quiet ... happy sewing to us all.

ArtsyOne 12-24-2012 05:00 PM

I'll be home alone quilting and maybe re-watching "Love Actually". But don't feel sorry for me, because we'll all be getting together to have Christmas at New Year Years. My SIL is a fireman and has been asked to work, as has my daughter the paramedic so the rest of us decided that if they couldn't be there then we'd just move the day.

Sounds like fun. It just started snowing here a couple of hours ago, so we will have a White Christmas. I will be cutting blocks, and embroidering some crazy quilt blocks.

I hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas.

Our family also live far away and we don't travel. We have had to many bad storms to drive thru and it is not worth it. My DH will probably go ice fishing and I will be quilting and spending time with my 2 four legged babies.

We are expecting rain, sleet, freezing rain, and snow tomorrow, so it will just be me and DH. I will be fixing chicken and noodles and a pumpkin pie for DH. Our youngest son and his family live next door, so they will probably stop by and visit for awhile. I am planning on doing some hand quilting and what ever else suits my fancy. Merry Christmas to all!!!!!!

momto5 12-24-2012 08:00 PM

Just got through with three days of non-stop Christmas dinners with family; so I will be spending the day by myself, doing what I enjoy the most...quilting, of course! My four-leggers will be glad to have me back in their control as well.

We had Christmas this evening everyone gone and I am still up. I worked from 7:30 AM til 7:30PM. Tomorrow I will finish the laundry and hope to work on the quilt I am working on. Always fun to get together but, glad it isn't often. The Grands are 25 - 10 YO. Shopping is easier because I give gift cards. Always the right size and color and a perfect fit.

Small family and my son is in Oregon so I too willbe qulting for the day. Howeer, after a wild retain season it is good to be quiet and enjoy my favorite hobby. However, if I lived close would love to join your happy group. sounds like much, munch fun. Enjoy.

redbreast 12-25-2012 08:14 AM

Sorry bad spelling --that should have been retail season.

quiltmama22 12-25-2012 08:35 AM

Love your Christmas traditions. I'm heading to Atlanta airport to pick up DD from WA, while DH is at work--doctor and medical examiner. Other DD and 2 darling GSs are driving down tomorrow. SIL will join us later in the week (he is manager of a large retail store) & we'll have a Christmas/New Year's celebration then. Probably not much quilting for a few days.

Carol34446 12-25-2012 09:11 AM

We have our daughter here so there will be just the three of us for dinner, dogs and pups to take care of, maybe get some sewing done and dinner to cool. Hope everyone has a very merry Christmas and enjoys the day.

We had my DH family here for dinner etc on Dec 23rd. 52 people. It was great seeing them all. ON Christmas Eve we go to My parents house. I brought half of the food and my sister brought the other half. My parents are 85 and 88 and doing the food is too much stress for them but they still like to have us all. I made homemade caramel rolls for this morning. MY DD and SIL were here with my grandson and 2 of my other kids. My other DS and DIL live in Japan and I will Skype with them later. Daughter and SIL left to go visit grandma 4 hours away. DH and DS are getting ready to plow snow later. We are supposed to get 6 to 9 inches. I feel like I have gained 20 pounds from all of the food. I am going upstairs to hide in my sewing room for a while for a break. I have a new shelf for my TV to install. A quilt rack too. My sewing room is a mess from making last minute Christmas gifts. Merry Christmas to all.

We are having our first big snowfall of the year. Already close to a foot, nice wet heavy stuff, the city/state crews are out taking care of the roads, not sure how long the storm is supposed to last but we have a blizzard warning through midnight tonight. This storm is affecting a good portion of the lower half of Alaska. I wanted to see some new snow on xmas but this is more than I bargained for. Good thing I only have to go about 2 miles home from work.

Sounds like fun!

I went to church early this morning and was made very welcome.after driving bak home had a bacon sandwich which I had been dreaming bout on the way back. Decided to start a baby quilt and went looking for a pattern. Well hours later realised I was hungry steak nd chips. Snoozed and played with dogs. Other than going to church it was a typical day. But never mind I still eyed very minute.

Christmas was always a big day with everyone coming to my house. Food, presents, kids, animals and joy. But I had to move to Washington 7 yrs ago (economy) so it is me and my two sons who share my home. (works out great for us) but I do miss all the excitement. Still, facebook, email and phones are going all day with pictures, and messages form all. Not quite the same, but still good. The two boys and I exchanged gifts (got good things. smile) and they are cooking dinner. Plan on working on youngest sons flannel quilt this evening. We are fed, warm and safe. what more can one ask for......

nstitches4u 12-25-2012 06:42 PM

Will you adopt me? That sounds like a perfect Christmas.

MimiBug123 12-26-2012 09:35 AM

For the first time in 10 years, I had both of my children home. We spent the day at my dad's house. His lady friend brought half the lunch and I brough the other half. We had some friends over as well and had a glorious time. Got good gifts, and now today I will clean up the remaining mess from cooking. Thanking God for another wonderful Christmas.

Your home sounds like the gathering place. I wish that our families were living near but they are out of town. So for Christmas we had our son, my husband's uncle, my husband and me. We had Polish kielbasa with scrambled eggs and bisquits for breakfast, then dips to hold us off until dinner which consisted of a leg of lamb, garlic smashed potatoes, string beans, and fancy carrots. I was trying to think of what to do between breakfast and dinner. So I brought out the picture albums from when our sons were born, and everything in between and other Christmases. We enjoyed looking at them so much and remember those who are no longer with us.
