Christmas gift

While shopping at a flea market, a friend expressed interest in a clothespin bag but didn't buy it. I found a pattern for one here http://madewithlovebyhannah.com/WordPress/?p=136 and had some polyester fabric I didn't want, so this is the result.

I changed the pattern a little bit and used fabric/things that I had, and some things I did didn't work out too well. I lined the fabric (cut out two pieces of each pattern piece) and did French seams. I should have clipped the curves before finishing the last seam and maybe I wouldn't have the puckering around the curves. Also, I added the binding to the neckline before sewing together. I had to re-do the neck binding in the back because there was too much bulk when sewing it all together.

IF I ever make another one (I don't know too many people who still hang out their clothes), I think I would enlarge the pattern a little bit so that it fit a regular sized wooden hanger. The hanger for this pattern needs to be 13.5 inches across and a regular wooden hanger is about 16 inches.

That is cute !!

Tartan 08-12-2014 08:42 AM

Very cute! Bring it to the dollar store and see if they have a wooden hanger you can cut off.

That is super cute! You're right. I don't know many people who hang out clothes anymore either. I couldn't do it here - the birds would wreck them!

Very cute!!! Wish I had an outdoor clothesline--miss that fresh air smell on clothes!

Chaney Ranch 08-12-2014 10:09 AM

That is too cute! Wish I still had a clothesline to hang my sheets and pillowcases...nothing smells fresher than air and sun dried linens!

Very cute.
I still hang my clothes out year around and I live in Pennsylvania.

You did a great job. It is adorable.

I love hanging my clothes out! That is adorable! Thanks for the link.

I love that - it reminds me of my granny - she always hung her clothes out and I loved her cute clothes pin bags - she had a couple of different ones that she made.

nanna-up-north 08-12-2014 11:21 AM

It's adorable..... I might have to make one of these for myself. I hang clothes out on the line often.

This is so cute. I hang all my dress clothes in the washroom and get to use my pin bag often.

mountain-moma 08-12-2014 08:18 PM

I just love it I to still hang my bed covers out

quiltingcandy 08-12-2014 08:23 PM

That is so cute! How can you wait until Christmas to give it to her?

Anniedeb 08-12-2014 09:30 PM

That is very cute! I still hang clothes out year round, but I use an ice cream bucket. May have to make me one of those!!

janiesews 08-13-2014 05:34 AM

Just darling. I miss my large clothesline-have a small one on back deck. Loved hanging clothes out.

shasta5718 08-13-2014 07:58 AM

I have a similar pattern, but it is used to put stockings in, or fine scarfs. They have many uses, your ideas are the only limit.

I love hanging out my blankets, bedspreads, sheets, etc., especially in the spring and summer. And pillows - they smell so great after hanging outside. I will sometimes put the different articles in the dryer for a final "fluff" but it sure can save on power!

IrishgalfromNJ 08-13-2014 12:49 PM

How clever are you? I love your creation.

my-ty 08-13-2014 01:06 PM

Thanks for the memories - I am sure both my grandmothers used these. I think I will have to make one for me.

2manyhobbies 08-14-2014 04:07 AM

Oh gosh. I remember the clothespin holders on our clothesline so well. This one is adorable.

PenniF 08-14-2014 04:46 AM

SO cute ! I used to have one of these - as did all the women in my family. I still look outside and sigh on sunny days and wish i had a clothes line to hang the linens out. They always smelled like sunshine afterward.

Beachbaby12 08-14-2014 04:56 AM

Maybe a child size hanger would work with this - it's gorgeous!

Caswews 08-14-2014 06:24 AM

OH how very cute !! I may have to make that for my "solar dryer" aka a clothes line ! (many of the HOA's are now letting you have a solar dryer to save on electrical usage in the area. Thank goodness I live in an unincorporated area and have one! ..LOL)

tlpa 08-14-2014 09:45 AM

Thats adorable...I hang out my clothes...love bringing the outdoor smell indoors with the clothes.

IBQUILTIN 08-14-2014 12:25 PM

Oh my. I used to make those out of my daughter's outgrown little dresses. The old is the new isn't it?

Marcia_PA 08-14-2014 01:26 PM

I'm happy sharing this little project brought back memories for you! I had hubby cut down one of our wooden hangers and made a little cover from the same fabric to slip over the wood part. I bought some plastic clothespins and the gift is ready to be wrapped :)

fmhall2 08-15-2014 08:37 AM

Very cute. I used to have a clothespin bag, but don't use clothespins any more, so have no idea what happened to it. Don't even have clotheslines any more.

fmhall2 08-15-2014 08:40 AM

Thank you for your service to our country, IrishgalfromNJ.

mjhaess 08-15-2014 08:56 AM

that is so cute...

QUILTNMO 08-16-2014 06:37 PM

very cute!!!!

Ruby the Quilter 08-19-2014 08:30 PM

So cute - I need one just for decoration in the laundry area with the clothespins. I do have a few things out. I use the color plastic clothes pins as decorations for the Christmas tree I put in the laundry area each year.

pal 08-22-2014 08:46 AM

You did a wonderful job on the clothespin holder! Couldn't you just add 2 inches to the length of each sleeve to make it fit a standard wooden hanger rather than try to find a hanger to fit the holder?
