Please let me explain. Here in UK we have a free bus pass to travel anywhere on public transport. Yesterday I decided to go by bus blow the time it took . Upstairs on the double decker the lady In front read a sign outside a church.

" new year disco, book early"

My comment , great I've missed Christmas. She said all those shops have lost a lot of money.

The two men present just looked mused. It seemed very strange to be booking New year in July and before you've celebrated Christmas. Live is changing all the time.

I know, I was in Hobby Lobby two weeks ago and 4th of July items were on sale and Christmas was on one side of the isle and Halloween on the other. Doesn't seem like we ever get to celebrate one holiday at a time. $$$$

I don't like that Thanksgiving decorations are out in the stores when summer isn't over and Halloween, which comes first, is months away. But I guess I have a lot of "it's not like it used to be" feelings these days.

I don't mind stores like a Hobby Lobby having holiday things out months in advance. Many crafters like to be working a season, or two, ahead especially if they are going to participating in craft shows. I do get irritated at dept stores rushing the season with their holiday decorations, tho. In fact, I remember walking into a local dept store in early Sept one year to hear Xmas music blaring from their speaker system. I told a salesclerk that if that was someone's idea of putting people in a shopping mood, they were wrong. Then I turned around and left.

I agree wholeheartedly with this sentiment. The first time I went into a department store and saw all the Christmas decorations up before halloween I was totally turned off. I don't feel at all sorry for the merchants when they start boo-hooing over holiday sales being down. What do they expect? They are promoting it year round and, at least for me, it destroys the fun. My family stopped exchanging gifts years ago and I've finally weaned my friends off of it. We do a nice lunch or dinner out and that's the end of it. If I see something special that I think someone would enjoy, I pick it up, but if I don't - no problem as there is no expectation on anyone's part. Of course we are all adults. This doesn't necessarily apply to kids. :)

Dottymo, sounds like you had a great day. Is it only the buses or can you travel on the tube?? Wish they had that is Southern California. As seniors, we get half of the bus fair.

Yes! And I am starting to really hate that phrase with a passion!! When I get emailed ads that say that I just delete them, I just can't take it!

I'm getting crankier as I get older. Soon I'm going to be shaking my cane at those darn kids who won't stay off the grass! LOL

We can travel by public transport buses any time for free after 9.30am although some counties do all day for free. Going upstairs on the double deckers is great as you can see over the hedges and into gardens or just the miles of scenery. Leek is called "queen of the Moors " and Buxton is in the Peak District and is split into 2 sections with a steep little climb between the two. Better to go once the tourists have left. The bus is fascinating as everyone knows each other and dogs also go to Buxton for walks in the hills. Some of the isolated farms catch up with each other's life as you travel along. Will definately be going again.

Today is Leek but in the car as the bus journey to long and times wa nt fit my sewing class in bibilot. Going to make a bag in 3 hours. They don't know I sew think I am a beginner until I get there. All I need to take is me no machine or notions
