christmas tree ornaments
So i'm done with this years ornaments. I make about 35-50 a year. this year was gnomes. what do i do for next year? NO folded star ones, they take too long to make that many. So do you all have a go to pattern? Is there a favorite one you made or received? any idea? I want to start now, when i can get fabrics on sale at JA's. I decorate my tree in aqua/white/silver. but make ornaments for everyone. Thanks everyone, and have a Merry Christmas

I have made little fans out of wide lace. Just pleat the lace fan like, tie on a ribbon and hot glue a little flower and I thought they were really pretty and don't take long to make.
|
We made yoyo Christmas trees and ball shaped with a bell at the bottom.
|
JoAnn's carries mini painting canvas, as does Walmart (I think). Can you cover them with Christmas fabric and add ribbon to make it look like a package?
|
I crocheted 250 ornaments 5 years ago. There are pattern books out there, but lots of free patterns available. My whole tree is snowflakes and glass icicles.

Here is a cute vintage ornament you could make. Mine is about 4 " long by 4" at the bottom. You could make it smaller. It is all yo yos.

I love the felt Christmas trees found here
http://www.countryliving.com/diy-cra...rafts/?slide=3 This year I made oragami wreath's for everyone's tree ornament. They were fun to do. |
Not sure where I saw this, probably doesn't fit the need of your #'s.
Reusing an old Christmas/winter themed men's necktie, and purchasing the small balsam frames from a craft store. You simply cut a piece of the tie to fit the frame, add a bow or any embellishment to the top. I was surprised how neat this was. Again this idea probably doesn't fit your number. Would be fun to start saving/collecting Christmas ties for the future. |
I want to see a picture of your gnomes...

Must be lovely. Please post a picture!

Lynnie, here are 3 ideas that may work for you. Take pieces of packing foam and cut into assorted sizes and shapes. Wrap with small pieces of fabric, or wrapping paper and decorate with ribbons and bows. I still have some from years ago that my kids made with me and seeing the every year is fun. Buy bags of craft balls and use torn strips (about 1/2" works best) of asstd. fabric. Use hot glue or elmer's to secure the strips as you wrap the balls. When covered use twine, lace, rick rack, ribbon, etc. to decorate and make a hanger. They are simple to make and so fun to add embellishments to gear to someones decorating tastes. The last suggestion is to take between 15 and 20 pieces or lace, rick rack, ribbon, narrow cut pieces of fabric, etc. all cut to about 11". Lay a piece of cord about half way down and fold the stack of items in half over cord. Tie another piece of cord down from the fold about 1/2" to 3/4". What you are making are tassels. Sew or glue buttons onto the bottom of the ribbons. Didn't mean to make this so long and hope you understand the directions. Brenda

Hi Lynnie.
Look up on the Magic Google Machine "The Log Cabin Santa Tutorial" 1 log cabin block makes two santas they are such fun to make I made them last year, this year I made 20 folded star ornaments and 8 candle mats. If you send me your email address I will send you the pattern, my email address is . |
I've made Santa faces from a pattern from some 15 years ago. I also make little trees by putting a little stuffing in 3 different size squares and then folding to make a triangle. You "layer" 3 triangles and it looks like a tree. Sorry, don't see an option to attach pic.

Carol, i sent you a PM
institches, my friend Dotty posted them, i think, under the Christmas ornament swap. beautiful out of the yo yo tree. I may do that and decorate it with leftovers. I can't even imagine how pretty the snowflakes and icicles would look. I love icicles. I did do them a few yrs back and hung a piece of ribbon and pearls and covered it at the top with a bow or flower. that might be an option for next year. i need to find clear icicles now. thank you all for your time to explain or show me how to do the ornaments. I still can't find my stockings or tree skirt,so I'm working on stocking now. tree skirt will be over the summer. thank you all. |
Have a look at Dinky Doo website. Today they have a tube for mini quilt ornaments

I have made log cabin blocks that hang on point. Easy to do and a good use of scraps. If you would like a picture I can send after the holidays. Traveling right now. Merry Christmas All!

I have been working on some rag ball ornaments.
This started out as a 2" Styrofoam ball, I cut 1-1/2 inch squares of fabric using the pinking shears or a pinking blade in my rotary cutter. I use the Aleene's Tacky glue diluted 75/25 mixture (75% glue to 25% water) small or skinny bamboo wood skewer. Below is a picture of the current ornament that I am working using a 1-1/2" foam ball. I went to the dollar tree store to get packs of the foam balls 3-4 sizes per bag. Can also use the different sizes to make snowmen. |

I like the rag ball ornament Quilty-Louise, and the yo yo wreath ornament too cfuzzy. |
JuneBillie, I will take a picture tomorrow and post it then.

i like that fuzzy ball too. dollar store 'stuff' and balls makes it cost affordable
Louise, about how many squares does it take, also, when you punch the squares in, does it matter if the right side is facing out or the inside?? |

JuneBillie, you asked for pictures of my log cabin quilt ornaments. I have also attached a few other ornaments I have made that are quick and easy. I can look up the patterns if anyone wants them. The santa's were real easy to make as they were made doing strips of fabric so you come make many at a time.

I buy tiny wooden embroidery hoops (3" dia) and embroider a picture/sketch/outline of a winter scene on it with the year and bow and hang it on the tree or give them as gifts.
|
I crocheted 6 doz. candy cane covers. Hubbie handed them out at church. They take maybe 10 min. to make and very small amount of yarn.
|
