What do you use? I want (need) to keep all my pots and pans clean but it's really difficult. I don't know what I should be using. All of them is getting to a point where I think I should just toss them and get brand new set.

Please tell me what have work for you.

Up North 05-02-2010 01:35 PM

What kind of pans do you have? I use an sos pad if the bottom in getting yucky, Spray with a degreaser and let set for a while first.

I bought these little things that are about the size of a sponge, but they have stiff netting on them with a metallic thread going through that. They clean the stainless pots and pans and the outside of all my pans really well.
The only thing I DON'T like about them is that metallic thread. I always microwave my sponges (according to CDC advise) but am afraid to put these in the mike.

Mine are stainless steel also and after years of use they still look like new and they were a cheap set not expensive. Use a Sos pad on the bottoms or salt and lemon juice with steal wool they will sparkle. I try to keep up with mine when I have a boil over. (doesn't always happen tho.)

quiltsRfun 05-02-2010 02:36 PM

I use Bar Keepers Friend. It takes out the stains without scratching.

I found the most wonderful stuff...it is called Dawn Power Dissolver. I found it at Walmart with the dish liquid. It is a gel in a spray bottle. I have porceline grates on my stove..and the stuff gets hard there..I just take the grates off..put them on newspaper and squirt the get on them. I let them sit for a few hours. Then I scrub them with a nylon scrubber. You can use this stuff on the pots and pans also. The hard baked on grim comes off a lot easier. After I use in on my pans, they have copper on the bottom...I take a half of a lemon and put salt on it to finish them off. You can even spray this stuff on the stove top to clean around the burners. I clean the stove top with barbasol shaving cream..just wipe it on..ket it sit for a few minutes and wipe clean.

I use Comet to deep clean my cookware every so often.

lfw045 05-02-2010 03:17 PM

Baking soda and water.......it not only makes it sparkle it deoderizes it also....

Barbm 05-02-2010 03:25 PM

Baking soda and water, stainless steel cleaner from Princess House (don't know if they still have it) or- spray it with oven cleaner and let it sit.

I have a SS teapot and when I do the countertops of the stive I spray it with oven cleaner and let it sit in the sink. Sparkles.

Barkeeper's Helper (or friend or whatever it's called)

sewgray 05-02-2010 04:06 PM

Mine are stainless from HSN. Not expensive but they still look like new. I use Barkeepers Friend and dry them with a towel.

bearisgray 05-02-2010 04:08 PM

Shaklee's Easy Off - (Anyway, I think that's what it's called)

It is a pink paste that comes in a small plastic covered container.

sewgull 05-02-2010 05:21 PM

I use Dawn dish liquid. Rub a coat of Dawn all over the greasy pot or pan, let set several hours even overnight. Then wash is hot water. I had a sheet cake pan that was black (used it to cook ribs) on the outside, I coated it with Dawn let set then washed it , looks almost new. Cheaper than replacing pan.

Thanks for all the advice. I do want to try and clean it before tossing it.

sandpat 05-03-2010 06:13 AM

Bar Keeper's friend...if you can find it....!

I use SOS every now and then; I think my mom (who had copper bottoms) used salt and red wine vinegar.

Newfie45 05-03-2010 08:11 AM

I've used Cameo Cleanser - you can get it just about anyway. It's fantastic especially on Stainless Steel!

sew_lulu 05-03-2010 09:41 AM

I have another question, what do you use on Hard-Anodized items?

After posting this thread, I looked into my kitchenware and found two sets. One is SS and the other is Hard-Anodized.

HisPatchwork 05-03-2010 11:24 AM

Baking soda. It does not scratch! Found out how wonderful it works on stovetops too, after I scratched my new one with other cleaners. Works great for cast iron pans.

Same here. I love it.

MoMoSews 05-03-2010 11:51 AM

I use Magic Erasers on my pans for upkeep. I don't know how they would work for really soiled pans.

Jingle 05-03-2010 01:52 PM

I use Dawn Power Dissolver on my gas stove grates, I spray them real ggod let set a few hours and then stack in sink and soak them in the hottest water I have, no scrubbing and I rinse them and dry them.

DON'T USE OVEN CLEANER IF YOU HAVE ANY KIND OF PET BIRD, IT WILL KILL THEM. eVEN IF THEY ARE IN ANOTHER ROOM.

sandpat 05-03-2010 03:49 PM

I like that Dawn Power dissolve stuff...but I think I let my thingies under my burners get too dirty...it wouldn't clean them. I've decided the best way for me to clean those is to buy new ones every year....DH doesn't agree...but..who cares???

juneayerza 05-03-2010 04:48 PM

I have stainless steel with copper bottoms that are about 35 years old and have used Bar Keepers Friend on them since day one. They don't brand new, but they look very good for thier age. I wouldn't use anything else, cleans well without scraching.

topper1 05-03-2010 06:07 PM

i have stainless steel use Bar Keepers Friend get it at walmart.

sew_lulu 05-04-2010 08:02 AM

I might have to get new ones since it's pretty burned!

Thanks for all the suggestion, I need to get my DH to not burn it when he's cooking. He doesn't cook too often but when he does, it's a mess everywhere. I think cleaning up is worst than cooking it myself.

I use dawn soap.

wvdek 05-08-2010 09:50 PM

Dawn dish soap, Bon-Ami cleanser(similar to Bar Keepers Friend), wah pans with the soap and scrubbie, make a paste out of the Bon-Ami, spread on the bottom of pans, let dry, take a non scratching scrubbie(we use the blue scrubbies) and scrub till clean.

earthwalker 05-08-2010 09:57 PM

For stubborn stains or burned on bits, baking soda spritzed with cheap white vinegar.
