Now this may not seem odd to you but I haven't seen things like this since kindergarten. Seed pictures for real??? And my question to myself is Where did I get all this STUFF??? I am finding old pieced blocks (ok that one I can kinda understand) Bunches and bunches of iron on transfers, Blocks that have been partially painted, old patterns , old magazines. oy vey. If I close my eyes will it go away if I wish real hard. lol

Up North 01-06-2012 05:13 PM

Peckish 01-06-2012 05:15 PM

Close your eyes and it will go away??!?!?!? Send it my way if you don't want it anymore! :) I think it's awesome! Maybe you inherited someone's stash and didn't realize it?

zipit 01-06-2012 05:23 PM

There is one like that on the wall in OKC that was gifted to MIL many years ago.

Peckish 01-06-2012 05:25 PM

Would make a great applique pattern.

Up North 01-06-2012 05:27 PM

I know that a neighbor gave me some things she found in a yard sale machine cabinet. I guess this stuff is it.
I never really went through it. If I had my own house it would be different I may take some of this old stuff and frame it for fun. But I have 2 rooms so I need to weed out a lot of things I brought with me. I am finding old cardboard patterns, old quilt group news letter, 1974, bits and pieces and even a pieced blocks section made from double knits. . What do I do with this stuff? There is even a drawing , very stylized of the court house in Fairburn Ga I guess they were going to make a quilt? I need to go through and organize this . I really want to get on with quilting but I guess I need to sort and get things to where they will be appreciated.

Yes it would but I at this point in my life don't see me doing it. And unless I get off this computer and get busy sorting I won't be doing much of anything lol

damaquilts 01-07-2012 07:37 AM

Ok this is what I decided to do. I am heading over to the freebee section and am posting stuff there. Please wait until I get it all up over there if you are interested. Thanks There will be pictures

Mona Marie 01-07-2012 07:47 AM

Oh, my DB's new girl friend loves roosters. May I have a copy???

Treasureit 01-07-2012 07:50 AM

You could trade for fabric on the board here! Or just sell the things...looks like good old stuff that is wanted!

MaryMo 01-07-2012 07:57 AM

Whatever you do, don't throw it away .... so much potential there. Selling or trading on this board is a great idea but if that does not appeal to you, give it to a local quilting guild. You have treasures there!

What you don't dispose of on the board you can give to the local senior center. I have taken many things to them and they act as if it is Christmas day, they are just so thrilled to have some of the things we no longer want or need especially any thing related to needle work.

IdahoSandy 01-08-2012 09:23 AM

The same thing happened to me before I moved. While going through boxes of un-remembered items found enough bear claw blocks to make a quilt. Lots of applique patterns of just about every imagineable. Some items I just wondered why in the world would I saved that. Laughing, laughing.

I wonder if that one could be paperpieced??? Looks really good.

sewnbug 01-08-2012 12:28 PM

Very interesting. I remember doing those seed pictures when i was a kid.

svenskaflicka1 01-08-2012 06:10 PM

in minnesota, there is even a category for "seed art" in the entries, every year. (it's called "crop art", now) the entrants are, indeed, adults, who are very skilled. i don't know--maybe it's because we are a farm state. some of them are pretty remarkable, some are kind of amateurish. everybody starts somewhere, i reckon! http://blogs.citypages.com/dressingr...state_fair.php

When you find craft supplies you no longer want- donate them to a day care or nursing home. Any care giver or activity person worth his/her salt will know how to use them to entertain his/her students/ residents. We don't like to see anything go to waste.

BarbaraSue 01-08-2012 09:07 PM

heck, Mitchell, South Dekota does a seed picture on the "corn palace". The outside of a building is completely covered in ideas like these. See, you could have a new hobby!!! lol hehe

Thank you for sending that link. They are amazing. I am now ashamed of the comment I made, but I really didn't know. Lesson learned check things out before making dumb comments. I should know better being a quilter.

nah--don't apologize! every year we are flabbergasted by the talent there--and by the sometimes awful stuff that gets in. it is art, after all--art is made to bring about a strong reaction, whether positive or negative...kind of like some of those quilts we make, and then question our own sanity in the choices... and like barbarasue said, check out the mitchell corn place! now that's some crop art!!!
