Am about to toss this set of pillowcases out. Figured I'd try using coke to launder them one last time ( may have gotten this tip here). May have brightened them just a tad. My DH pillow is always stainded. I guess it oils from his hair. He showers nightly & it still happens, so I regurally toss my pillow cases.

I have started bying colored sheets for that same reason

grammyp 09-16-2010 06:09 PM

Oh, I know what you mean. DH doesn't even have any hair and his still gets stained.

texas granny 09-16-2010 06:19 PM

same here I have heard of the coke thing before

nativetexan 09-16-2010 06:21 PM

Ivory Snow takes out oil from pillowcases very well.

DJRustic 09-16-2010 06:47 PM

Hey, I have a hubby that does the same thing. I am so afraid that I will get his pillow case I put a safety pin on his . LOL. Don't want his yucky case. He showers everynight & still his case looks terrible. My favorite color is black, so guess what color our sheets are? Black!!!!! I found this lavender spray at Dollar Tree. Soak his case every morn. Helps. Been dealing with this for 49 yrs. LOL.

My DH also has very oily skin. He wears nothing but white shirts and gets ring around the collar something fierce. I tried all kinds of detergents. Nothing gets it out. So I tried shampoo. You got it. Works like a charm. Figured it was body oil, and shampoo was designed to clean body oil, soooo...now he has pretty white collars again.

The Shampoo idea sounds great, I am going to have to try it on collars too!! They are a constant battle!

quiltnmom 09-16-2010 07:25 PM

Oohh! Thanks for the shampoo idea. I have the same problem with the pillowcases and shirts too.

raptureready 09-17-2010 02:32 AM

Buy or make darker pillow cases.

Janetlmt 09-17-2010 03:07 AM

Wow...I thought DH had a problem..his pillow cases are like that. I to have tried everything imaginable to wash them. He made a comment to me one day..why doesn't my pillow smell good like yours? I bought tan and dark brown cases for him. I think today I am going to wash the cases in shampoo..hope it helps. Can I wash his pillow in shampoo too?
Thank you for the tips. I love QB.
Peace and Blessings

How about tryint Dawn dish soap

CarrieAnne 09-17-2010 05:04 AM

Sallys girl, Dawn is great fo so many things! Sometimes I help BF out in thegarage or recycling and getreally greasy, and DAwn will get it out! The Blue dawn also kills fleas!

Had the stain problem, plus a really bad odor that just didnt come out of the sheets and cases. I use A&H washing soda, that helps a lot. Pillows get tossed frequently! It is such a strange odor, even after washing, if his sheets a stacked next to mine on the shelf, I can detect the odor on mine. It's weird, he is clean and his clothing isn'T like that, . You all refer to the staining, anyone have the stink too?

Fox 09-17-2010 05:53 AM

I have really missed something here. Coke and laudry? How much, how often, still with fizz or without...what have I missed?

litacats 09-17-2010 06:04 AM

it must be a man thing my DH has the same problem even the pillow gets stained.

martha jo 09-17-2010 06:36 AM

I had a friend years ago whose husband was a car mechanic. He got everything very black and greasy. She would use detergent and one can of Coke in the wash and they would come clean. Don't know how it will work on body grease. Have you tried Shout spray or one of the degreaser sprays?

true4uca 09-17-2010 07:01 AM

Wow, just knowing I'm not thr only one is so great. All these years I've blamed the quality of the sheets, my laundry skills etc. Next I'll try the shampoo tip. Over the years I think I've tried every pre-wash on the market.

Same problem with my DH and his pillow. Also when I started the change, I found my pillow damp alot. I now take a large towel and wrap the pillows after putting on the pillow case. The towels seem to dry better, while absorbing better as well. Haven't seem any of the staining since. Took a bit for him to admit that it was better, but now he won't sleep without it.

Martha Jo--Thanks for letting me in on the secret!

Magdalena 09-17-2010 12:53 PM

From what I understand it is the carbohydrates in the soda that break down the grease and/or oil. Now if that was only true for drinking coke! Now that what be a miracle weight loss drink.

Fox 09-17-2010 01:17 PM

Me too Magdalena, I wish I could get away with just drinking Coke...maybe Coke Zero...because Lipitor is really expensive!

jljack 09-17-2010 03:27 PM

My husband's hair is totally greasy by the end of the day, and he always has an oil slick building on his face. I don't know why the guys get this!! Anyway, I have gotten so I wash and bleach his pillow cases separate from the other laundry so I can do it in hot water to get it clean. I wash his pillow the same way, because it really starts to stink! Believe it or not I actually got him to try a clay mask on his face not long ago, and he liked the result! Imagine that!! LOL
