I just got up to find that my computer was hacked last night. Somehow they got my address book and sent out spam to everyone. If you got one I am sorry. If you can tell me how to fix this let me know. Help!!!!

it was on the news a few weeks ago..they were doing the scam,

where . "you" sent out emails to everyone, asking for money,because "you took a quick trip to england and lost your passport and need some cash to get home.

it is not a virus..just change your passwords and you should be fine..good luck!

I think it is sickening that people hack computers or put out viruses, etc.

I used to be a programmer and knew some of these "nuts". They thought it was a game to see if they were smarter than the computer. SICK!!

I worked for the government and our system was hacked within 20 minutes of putting it online. Nothing is safe. I never use credit cards etc online. I know that all of the companies have this info online, but I figure the less that is out there the better my chances are. If I want to buy something online, I go out and buy a pre-paid credit card and use that. It is worth the fee they charge.

I know about 4 of my friends had their identity stolen. Credit cards, fake drivers license, etc. It is really scary.

See, this is why I don't use those sites or Hotmail. Maybe we should all go back to snail mail and maybe then the Post Office will be in the black again. :)

It's a worm, and was most likely attached to an email you got from someone who emailed you. Once you open the email you have let the worm out and IT emailed everyone in your address book.

You weren't hacked, it's a virus and it came from someone who emailed you. It's a script that is attached to email and once it's opened, it emails everyone from your address book. No one was in your computer.

I am so sorry, I had my myspace hacked too... too bad these hacker's computers don't disintegrate into a pile of melted plastic whenever they get into someone else's computer....

This thread has reminded me that I've been wanting to close my Facebook account for some time since I rarely go there.
Does anyone know where a "close account" button is on Facebook?
I never put much info there anyway and kept everything "locked" where only friends could see it. But still why isn't there a easy way to close the account? Or am I just not finding it?

I am back to the "old fashioned" way of emailing my friends!

SIL had that happen. She finally opened up a new e-mail address and let us all know by e-mail from the new address. Don't forward your address book from the old acct. to the new one. Good luck.

Sorry to hear that you are having this difficulty...It just isn't right that people get away with this stuff.....

That is what I figured out yesterday. My uncle is a computer geek. He said I had all the protection in place. But, this just happens if you visit sites or open emails. Crazy.

My uncle says it didn't come from facebook. He said that since I only post comments and do not use applications such as relations, farmville or other games, I am fine on facebook. If you do do one of those, it asks for your permission to pull your info. NO WAY would I say yes to this. I use the strongest possible security. Only my "friends" see anything. I am very perticular about who those friends are. It is such a great way to keep in touch with my family who are spead around the country. Pictures daily of new babies and special events that I would have missed otherwise, is the only reason I am on facebook.
