Can someone please tell me how do you know what programs might be running in the background? I ask this because yesterday when I left my computer running in idle mode I came back and there was a picture on my screen from my pic files but I hadn't been there.
I hope my question makes sense.

Hit ctrl+alt+del all at the same time
that should bring up your Task Manager
which will show you what processes and applications are running at that time.

do you have a screensaver on? Its been years since I've been on windows but it might be that. Some screensavers will pull a pic from that folder and display it a few minutes before changing to another.

Yes, that is the screensaver working. I actually have mine set to do that , love looking up and seeing pics of the grandkid or my roses going by. If you don't like that, go to control panel, themes and display, and you can change it.
