Cork Purse

Absolutely one-of-a-kind, because I'm never making another. :D
This was from the Boronia bag pattern and along with the pattern, there was about 3 hours of video (5 altogether), which I was truly grateful for, as I would never have finished it without seeing her do it from start to finish. Maybe if you had experience bag-making it would have been a snap. And, I sent a question and got an answer right away, so the pattern-maker was really responsive. I also bought the wrong kind of zipper, which I didn't figure out until I had the whole thing in...and I sure as heck wasn't taking it out....so I couldn't finish it by the pattern, I had to wing that part, but it turned out OK...Just more hand-sewing of the lining than there would have been. Still have a little of that to do. All in all, I think it turned out well...other than the zipper undoing from the wrong ends. Oh, well. The cork was surprisingly easy to work with, as well. How did you install/apply the hardware?

You install the hardware right after you glue the heavy interfacing ("Stiff Stuff") onto the cork. I have a rotary hole punch for leather so I used that to make the little holes (You could use sharp tipped scissors), then you stick the prongs through, put the washer on the back and bend the prongs. The rivets work the same except you have to hammer the rivets on and you can do them whenever. I also add glue to the rivets just before I hammer them closed.

That's beautiful & so professional looking. I've heard that cork is very easy to work with. I love your "handmade" label.

Beautiful!! You did such a great job and kudos for sticking with it! I have been asked if I would be willing to teach a bag class featuring cork but that sh-tuff scares me silly!! I'd much rather take that class than teach it!!
