Counted Cross Stitch Christmas Stockings

5 Attachment(s)
Other than quilting my other passion is counted cross stitch. About 26 years ago I started what has become a tradition in my family- a counted cross stitch Christmas stocking for each member. These are some that I have completed so far. One for hubby, two sons, two daughter in laws, five grandkids.

Oops, did not get a picture for oldest granddaughters, so will have to go back.

Here is two more stocking that I failed to get posted on the original post.

I'm working on one for my first grandson in law and by Christmas 2015 will need one for my first granddaughter in law.

Oh what fun!! I am happiest when I am busy so really enjoy everything!!!

very nice! I do counted cross stich also. I started a Xmas tree skirt and I work on it part time (every now and then) it will take me years to finish it!!!

QuiltnNan 04-18-2015 08:54 AM

those are great

ManiacQuilter2 04-18-2015 10:42 AM

Those are great. Many of us have given up X-stitch because of getting old with our eyes.

lynnie 04-18-2015 03:23 PM

beautiful work. I too love counted cross.
hopefully i'll get surgery in November and be able to see
good enough to do it again. I love all your designs and your work.

BETTY62 04-18-2015 03:28 PM

They are awesome. I'm sure they will be loved and valued for years to come.

You do beautiful work! I have done 33 stockings to date, my family and all my siblings grand children as well. Love
doing them.

I understand completely. I have a kit for one, purchased a long time ago, but have not even opened the kit. Wonder if I will live long enough to do it, would have to have another 50+ years added to my 66. (VBG)

Yes, that is happening with me also. I now only work on them in daylight hours. Seems to be easier to see than at night.

You have been busy!!! I have only made 13 total - I don't know if I would ever get 33 done. Do you design your own patterns. I purchase the patterns I use, but since counted cross stitch is no longer in demand, I have trouble finding a pattern I like.

Wishing you the very best with your eye surgery.

QuiltingVagabond 04-19-2015 05:16 AM

I also have made counted cross stitch stockings for my family, 9 so far plus 3 or 4 others for my siblings children.
And the eyes are going too, the last stocking was on navy 18 ct aida and I had to change it to 14 ct to even begin to see it LOL.
Cataract surgery is in my future and I can't wait!

Latrinka 04-19-2015 05:55 AM

Those are all Very pretty! I love cross-stitching too, so I can appreciate for sure the time put into these! I've never done a stocking, but have done tons of wall hangings, coasters, smaller ones to put in a magnet frame for fridge, etc. I'm working now on a wedding one for my youngest son getting married later this year. Just FYI.....you can get books loaded with patterns at the library.

I made one for a great nephew 1 7 years ago. I was told by DD NOT to make one for my 2 youngest grand daughters Now they wish they had one as they are establishing their own homes. Too late for these old eyes, so the girls will have to do for themselves.

Your work is great. I've done the same for all the nieces/nephews with needlepoint.

shasta5718 04-20-2015 05:10 AM

Beautiful, wish I had the patience to do those.

BCM 04-20-2015 07:16 AM

Where do you find your patterns?

mjhaess 04-20-2015 08:15 AM

Wow..Those are awesome...I am sure your family loves them...

csstexas 04-21-2015 06:18 AM

Beautiful work!

Jim's Gem 04-21-2015 09:25 AM

Those are beautiful! I always meant to make some for my kids. However they are all now grown up in their own homes. I have not cross stitched in about 13 years.

SewingSew 05-15-2015 12:19 PM

Bobbielinks,

I wanted to tell you how beautiful I think your stockings are. These must represent a lot of your time. I cross-stitch too, so I know how long it takes to do this. These are stunning! Sharon

quiltingcandy 05-15-2015 12:25 PM

Those are truly beautiful! When my daughters were little I used the counted cross stitch patterns to make needle point stockings for my daughters. They are no where near as detailed as yours.

Some I found at Hobby Lobby, some at Joanne's, other were ordered online. Now is a good time to order online, as there are sales going on. I have a new great grandson, so I need to be thinking about another one to do.

Crqltr 12-01-2016 08:47 AM

I can't imagine how many hours went into those stockings! Such a treasure for everyone!

sewbizgirl 12-01-2016 09:13 AM

Bobbielinks, no surgery yet, the eye doc says the cataracts are not ready yet. But I can definitely not see as well as I did even a year ago.
As an update, we had a sump failure in our basement in June 2015, but didn't realize that the plastic tub holding most of my Christmas linens (including 5 of the family cross-stitched stockings) had a crack in the bottom.
We discovered it in Dec '15 and had to throw out all those handmade keepsakes.
I managed to finish one of the damaged ones for my DGS. Here are pics of the original and the replacement.
I did the replacement in needlepoint as I knew I could not see well enough to make the original in ccs on dark aida again.

I did personalize the new one replacing the girl with his dogs and the vintage toys with a Minion and a soccer ball LOL.

JustAbitCrazy 12-01-2016 04:57 PM

Wow, those are gorgeous! I used to do counted cross stitch. Lots of work.

tranum 12-01-2016 06:29 PM

Fabulous! I had a full time job back when we were adding family members, so I felt I had no time to spare. I admire your beautiful work and the hours invested. I'm embaressed to tell you all I bought fuzzy stockings at Target and used paint to write their names on the cuff. How bad is that ??

I am so very sorry for the lose of your keepsakes. All the hours of work wiped away. But the needlepoint work is just as beautiful. Love the boy and his dogs!!
