I am not an artist - I can generally copy something but I can not "create".
I have five or six ideas in my head for quilts or quilting projects and no on else on earth appears to have had the same ideas....done them...posted an easy to use pattern or even a picture. This is seriously getting frustrating and I need everyone to get on the ball and create and make the stuff I want and then post the pictures with easy to use instructions! Ok? Today would work for me!! |
Wow your not asking for much! ;-) Maybe if you can describe or sketch what's on your mind we can help?
|
Ahh, my friend, don't count on me! Creating on my own doesn't seem to be in my DNA
However, I AM designing a baseball quilt but still need my DH to help. That's okay though lol Today is Opening Day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D:D The quilt is also going to be for ME hahaha |

Yes I know that is part of the problem...
I want a cute and easy girly easter lap quilt pattern - something other than just blocks - on this now idea in my head other than what I don't want. I want a pattern that uses only blocks or triangle blocks that form a bunny rabit or easter basket - I don't want to aplique - sort of like the blocks I've done that have that make the cancer ribbon - I want the blocks to magically form a bunny rabbit or an easter basket. I want a lot of thing - the problem is I'm not sure exactly what I want - just what I don't! It is a huge problem when you can create but only by copying what others have done before you!!! |
At least now we have a starting point...what you are not looking for....keep it coming :)
|
Have you tried taking a pic from a coloring book, blowing it up several hundred percent and cutting it into different sized blocks? It would still be your "creation"

LOL LOL you are too funny....still working on it...will have an idea ot two soon.
|
I don't know what is wrong today - maybe just too many things going on at once or too may quilt promises made or too many idea's floating around. I tried cleaning up around the house some to take a break but now the house is cleaned and the mind is still fluttering away!

I'll give you a hint. Ask a child about 8 to 10 years old to do this for you, to draw a picture of what he/she thinks your idea is.
My husband did that to my 9 year old daughter when we first married. As a talented artist himself, she and I were both pleased when he took her painting (about 8 X 10 inches) and framed it. He kept a straight face when visitors asked about it, saying that he had a rare P.J. Helbert original, and no, it wasn't for sale, even though no one had asked. It was like some of his, a swirl of colors with lots of black. Kinda neat, and I gave it to her recently so she could show her grandkids!!!!! You might get another fabulous quilt like the lovely Van Gogh another quilter posted here some time ago. |
Ok Pam....the only things I can get to come out are applique, I know you said no to that....that being said, I haven't done a bargello yet and not sure how to make it work. The program I have is not very helpful as of yet, because I am still learning it. I will keep working on this and will pm you when I get something solid.
I do get alot of my ideas from stained glass patterns and the b/w drawings of these look like coloring pages....check out a few from Spectrum Glass or Chantal you might find something that lights your fire. |
I saw someone did a dresden plate basket and butterfly wall hanging in the pictures section.
Maybe something like that could get you started... also thinking outside the box 3-d pinwheel could be floppyeared rabbit (at least in my brain ;)) |
graph paper and that coloring book bunny. or check out counted cross stitch patterns. they are already gridded and you can just enlarge the squares. ala eleanor burns "cross stitch quilts". you can even use the gridded fusible webbing.
i have also seen log cabin blocks put together in bunny and dog shapes. just a matter of placing the colors the right direction, i think. |
I know you don't want applique and too much stuff, but have your tried googling free Easter quilt patterns?
I think this pattern is really cute, but it has applique and no Baskets. http://www.scribd.com/doc/3280641/Be...erndiymoms-com |

Thank you so much for trying for me..... I'm going to check these out as soon as I get DH out of the house and back to the office! |
The only reason I am against Aplique is because I don't know how to do it and I guess I could easily learn but that kind of stuff makes me nervous that I will mess it up!
|
Here's the dresden plate basket pic... http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-111997-1.htm

Applique was the very first quilt I did...many small pieces and it urned out really good...will look for the pic... my avater was applique

Just go to Quilt University.com. They offer many courses about putting your *dream quilt on paper*. The teachers are more than helpful and it is not expensive.

look under cute coloring pages, coloring page cartoon cartoons, that's what i did for my funky chicken and funky cat. i made different sizes, then just added borders to make into a block (think log cabin) and put tog.

I know you can take a basic outline picture like a coloring book and draw a grid over it. Then with a marker, make the lines within each grid square straight instead of curved. Then when you take each square and enlarge it into your quilt square size to piece, you will have the pattern there to show you what you need to cut.

Pam, here's a cute and easy bunny pattern.
http://www.youcanquiltthis.com/index...oo-Bunny-Quilt I think this one is really cute and would go together very quickly! You could make the blocks any size and use pastels or brights. Click on blocks at left and look for Peek-A-Boo-Bunny. Edited by FarmStitcher |
I say go to the library childrens section when you find the right pic get a couple copies -our library can make blow-ups or do you have some one who has kids/GKs
|
Haha love it and when they are done they can start on mine LOL
|
Wow, that sorta sounds like me as well. I know what I like but I have to see it first - LOL.

Find a coloring book picture that has something in it you like - say an egg! take some tissue paper and trace around the edges, cut it out roughly and glue it on some cardboard. let dry. Cut it out on the lines. Lay the egg pattern on some wildly patterened fabric maybe a fat quarter. Draw around it. Cut out the fabric following the line you have drawn. Cut out a piece of fabric the size and shape you want the background to be ( like a very large wall hanging size egg shape) Following the directions on the package exactly, iron all your different colored eggs to the background. You can put them every which way or in rows! If you want to add a bunny or basket or anything else, do the same process. Write words with an indelible marker. (Practice first) Take it from me, an artist, sometimes you can make the ideas in your head, sometimes you can't! But, remember this rule, to make something, and make it work out the way you want it to, you have to follow the process of doing it. There are not any shortcuts. But in compensation, the joys of the creative works are enormous, and worth taking the time to think it through, and having the patience to do it carefully and right. Only you can get the ideas in your head onto a quilt. Others can teach you the ways of the craft of making your ideas come to reality, but they can't see into, or read your mind. Hope this helps...everybody gets nervous they will make a mistake! It is also part of the creative process too, but it isn't an excuse. Figuring out how to do it, and then DOING it is fun! Jeannie |

Tangrams.....Tangrams use geometric shapes to make animals... http://familyfun.go.com/crafts/craft...-673779/print/ now I just have to take that and figure a quilt around it....I think....maybe.... |
I haven’t read all the posts here yet so maybe someone already suggested this. I still think you are an artist you just have what is similar to ‘writers block’ only it’s ‘quilters block’ (no pun intended :-P ) You said you want your design made of squares and triangles. How about drawing it out on graph paper, it’s a start and the ideas may just start coming to mind. You’ll see what you like and what you don’t like and keep it or eliminate it – your ideas may grow and change as you do this.

I have to get coffee in my system first and then I'm going back to work - I can't believe I got so stuck on this idea. But I'm happy I may have found a solution and DOUBLE HAPPY for all the help and idea's I got here!!! |
Get yourself a pad of graft paper and graft out your rabbit/bunny. Graft paper comes in many sizes and you can find one that each square equals 1" or 2". I have a friend
who does this all the time. Remember the 1/2sq. for angles. |
That's pretty neat. Try blowing it up to be 12" square (300%) then maybe you will have an easier time with the shapes.
Good Luck!! Have fun too. |
i to am a copier. i have tried to change, but thats me.
|
Sounds like a job for EQ7
|
You can take simple half square triangles and arrange them in any log cabin setting for the same result...or arrange them following a simple cross stitch design to make an easter thing.
