I just have a small note pad at my chair. When I start a new row, I write the row number on it. I do this for knitting also. Simple but effective for me. I guess I’m old school, my long deceased aunts did this.

I've had a Susan Bates "Peg It" knitting counter for many years but it looks like it is no longer available. I did find this one made by Pony https://www.heartstringsyarn.com/pon...ter-my627.html . How ever if I'm not at home I use a scrap piece of paper and pen.

Bobby pins make great stitch markers. I have the medium 2 inch long ones but I find them a bit too long. There a smaller 1.25 inch bobby pins that might be a better choice.

This is the one I have for knitting and I really like it. It locks for travel, or if you'll be leaving your work for a bit

I have the same one that GEMRM has. It works well for knitting and isn't expensive. I find it more convenient than paper.

my problem with row counters is that I'd forget if I've punched/clicked it LOL But I do use a stitch marker. I love these https://www.amazon.com/Knitting-Coun...s%2C168&sr=8-3
When I don't have them with me, I use just a short piece of yarn.
BTW, I recently saw this row of cupcakes on FB and had to try it right away... it's so cute!

Gosh, do those from Amazon look handy! For many things! In my Amazon cart now!

I just use a 4" piece of hot pink yarn in the first stitch of a new row.

I use both counters and markers. Old school counter as long as I remember to roll the counter and I more than often will use a piece of yard as a marker keeping things simple. I have been known to stitch right in plastic markers.

I ended up buying the following from Amazon, mainly because it is metal and I am hoping it will be sturdy:

KTRIO Metal Hand Tally Counter 4-Digit Tally Counters Mechanical Palm Counter Clicker Counter, Silver

I have used it on two projects and it was helpful.

Link is here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

However, I still find that I am counting stitches as well as rows and will likely use the paper and marker methods
along with the counter. (Or I could buy two counters. [Not] )
