Crochet?
 

I am considering taking up another hobby. Why you may ask? Corcheting can be done quietly without a machine - thus giving me an option when I want to also watch Tivo :)

Knowing so many have multiple hobbies I thought I would start here. I am hoping to land the jackpot website. Maybe a crochet version of this board. If only I were so lucky!!!

Any suggestions as to where/how to start. Keep in mind - I don't even have yarn. Its like wanting to quit and not having thread :)

It's great to hear of other crocheters! Have you ever crocheted before? It's one of my favorite hobbies. My grandmother started teaching me when I was about 5. That was 40 + years ago. It's is a relaxing quiet skill, that you can take anywhere your machine can't go, lol. Hope you enjoy it. It too, can be as rewarding as quilting.

When I started I bought a book that came with the crochet hook and some easy patterns. Now you can find videos that show you everything you need to know. So take the plunge and buy some yard and a hook and make a scarf. Easy project to start with and you'll have a gift to give or something for yourself.

I taught myself how to crochet and tat as a teen. I enjoy both. I do mostly thread crochet. The crochet head wrap bands with big crochet flowers are selling like hot cakes in this area.

Go for it! I taught myself to quilt when I was pregnant with my first baby. My grandmother did beautiful thread crochet and made doilies, baby dresses, and even table cloths. She tried to teach me, but i just couldn't get the hang of the crochet thread. I also bought a book with a hook and simple patterns and with the yarn it just seemed to click. Good luck.

I crochet too, My mother, and grandmother both did it too. My mother was left handed and couldn't teach me, so she told me to buy a book, and learn from that. It worked, I did what the book said and I was crocheting. I've been doing it for the last 40 years now. My kids love the doilies I make. It is a wonderful hobby. Love it!

Crochet is quite easy to learn. There are many excellent sites on the web nowadays that show you the steps. You could also borrow a learn to crochet book from your library. You might find some valuable advice on www.knittingparadise.com.

I crochet during the evening hrs while watching TV during winter mths. Just finished two lap blankets for Christmas presents. If you go into Lion Brand Yarn they have free patterns. If you sign up for their newsltr they send them to you free each mth. Start out easy make yourself a scarf.
