Cupcake envy

My son (33) is always complaining because he never gets any of the "fancy" cupcakes i make for special occasions using the decorating books by Karen Tack and Alan Richardson. I live in Texas (my DD and family live nearby) while he, DDIL and DGD live in Pittsburgh.
Well - for Easter i went out on a THIN limb and made the flower cupcakes and mailed them to Pittsburgh. I packaged very carefully -- but thought i might have an epic FAIL on my hands when they got there. NOT SO !!! My DDIL sent this photo showing 1 of the 3 boxes i sent ....and all the cupcakes made it in very good condition. Hope my DS will be happy now when he sees/eats them.

How sweet Penni. Can you share your packing secrets? I would love to send decorated goodies in the mail to my loved ones.

I bought cupcake boxes at JoAnn's in the Wilton section. I put the cupcakes in (put a large marshmallow in the center to help with shifting) then gently laid plastic wrap over them and put a bit of paper Easter grass on top....just enough so that the cupcakes could not move up and down...the box pretty much keeps them from moving side to side.
I then boxed them with packing material to keep the cupcake boxes from moving around and sent them priority mail.
These are done with mini marshmallows on top, but most frostings get a surface on them after they sit a bit, so you should be able to do the same thing without the plastic wrap sticking to the frosting.

So you squish the mini marsh into the petal shape? How very clever...must remember that one!

Gorgeous cupcakes! Looks yummy!!My cousin does this and puts a thin slab of Styrofoam on the bottom then sticks a skewer through the cupcake down through the Styrofoam to help stabilize and keep anything off the tops as well. When they arrive they just pull the skewer out do a touch up and celebrate the goodies.

Your cupcakes are beautiful! Thank you, also, for your shipping tips. I'm in IN and have one DD and family in OH and the other DD in San Antonio. I'd love to be able to send them treats now and then. I will try your suggestions!
