I was surfing the internet looking for a quilt fabric and got suckered into a virus. I should have known better than to click on that darn button. Couldn't use my computer for hours. Funny because I have antivirus software and it didn't even catch it. Thank goodness my SIL is very smart about computers and walked me through what I had to do to get rid of the dang thing and so far it looks like I fixed it.
Phew...learned my lesson! |
Darn viruses! They make me so mad. Happy that you got this one wiped out.
|
What did you click on so we know what to avoid?
|
Twice in the last month I have picked one up, where you are clicking on the link what ever it may be, and this pretend virus scanner comes up on your screen. It then locks out your ENTIRE system, everything, and the only thing you can do or go is to their website to buy there so called antivirus software. These scammers reallly annoy me, becasue they prey on the poor unsuspecting people who dont know any better and buy their so called software and then they have your personal details about everyhting, even your IP address.
Both times I had to restore my system, not that it was hard to do, just very annoying. |

Yep...that is the one I got too! And it looks so realistic I thought it really was a microsoft warning.
My SIL told me that when this happens again don't click on anything. Do the control alt delete thing and shut down my programs through the task manager. I'm so glad he is in the family :-D |
Yep, you dont want to find out the hard way...its just a total scam, there are a few of them getting around at the moment.
Bit like that Nigeria scam thing really isnt it.....makes you wonder how many people they have caught out. Helps when you have a Computer techie in the family too lol. the first time it happened to me, I had a wonderful frinds fix mine for me, and I took notes so if it happened again, I could fix it with out having to bother her! Glad I did |
I was reading the board post the other day and a spyware virus took over my puter..would not let us do anything to get rid of it not even our paid-for virus protection... took hubby several hrs to get rid of it....

Bless your heart. I had that to happen, too. Boy, it makes me firey mad. Reminds me of the kid in the neighborhood who burst your basketball cause he can't play. Hackers needs their pants dusted - the hard way!
Bless me Lord, Ruth |

One got my hubby he clicked on a suite and it send him to another and before he could cut it off BAM the virus shut the computer down. He knows how to debug and had it up and running in time, but this usually happen to my computer . I have set up a bogus email address in my address book so it can not be passed on. It has to start with "a" [email protected] this is a bogus address.

I was searching for quilt patterns this morning, and Norton stopped 3 sites from downloading due to detecting a virus. When I went to look at the details, they were listed as a high risk, too.
It seems that bogus quilt sites are very popular now as a means to give us unwanted bugs. |

That happened to me back the last week of April and my SIL walked my through it, too. He had set up a remote assistance link for me 'cause he is 540 miles from me, and I was barely able to get him a few days later when I finally got my email to come up. He installed a malware anti-virus something. The first time I ran it, it found 15 viruses. I ran it again in a couple days 'cause my computer wasn't acting just as it should and it found 6 more viruses. My computer was old anyway, but I had to keep using it for awhile until I had the money to get a new one, which I got Aug. 5. I can't believe what I was putting up with on my old one.

We use AVAST and it will sound an alarm, the bio-hazard symbol pops up and a friendly voice comes out the speakers saying a virus has been detected.

I switched to Google Chrome Browser. It's great. No spyware or virus get through it online. The smart phones use the same type browser software, spyware or virus will ruin the smart phone market so it has to work. Google has great computer free programs to really make it one click to do anything. I have an email button on my browser that I click and my email window pops up with a new compose message window addressed to myself. I copy and paste what ever I want to save from a website and send it to myself or anyone, with one click.
