Daybed?
 

I have a bedroom with a double bed in it that is used very rarely......I'm thinking of looking into switching it out for a day bed with trundle. I don't need the room for sewing or anything, just tired of looking at it with this unused bed in it.....must add, have gg kids that sometimes do spend overnite said here, so I do need a bed of sorts for that reason, just thought a day bed would be "cuter"..... Does anyone here have one, thoughts on it?

When you open it up it becomes a king sized bed.

I did replace it with two very wide "chairs" that have a twin bed hidden in it. I found the daybed not as functional for everyday use and sitting on it but it was nicer to sleep on then the fold out twin beds. Since we use the bed more for sitting on then sleeping, it made sense for us.

I have the Ikea Hemnes daybed too. Every once in a while I have overnight guests, so it's nice to have. It's in my fabric stash room so most of the time it's piled with totes of fabric. When guests come, I move the totes into the sewing area next to that room.

That room has sloped ceilings, if it had regular ones, I'd opt for a murphy bed instead, one that you can fold up against the wall when not in use. My friend has two murphy beds in the downstairs family room, she has grade school age kids, and it works great when they have friends/relatives staying overnight.

I found daybeds hard to make and not comfortable as a couch! I love Annaquilts idea of pull out chairs. Comfortable enough for company. Kids would probably love them.

I bought Day bed with trundle for saving space and very happy with looks and use. My son and wife use it a couple times a year and can't wait for my twin granddaughters to be old enough to use it overnight. I say go for it.

We replaced ours with a Murphy Bed.

first of all, my rooms downstairs are very small but I have had queen and full size beds in them. for years now I had the smallest one just for sewing, misc. a few years ago I was having surgery and couldn't climb the stairs and I did buy a day bed, it has the trundle. I don't really use the trundle but love the day bed. Its not one of the metal ones, its all wood that is covered on leather. My daughter also had one growing up and now her daughter has one just like hers was. Great space saver. I love the beds that fold up against the wall (can't remember the name) but they are really expensive but look just like a bookcase, etc

We went to a day bed in the extra bedroom and love it! Takes up less room, and is handy to have for company. No one minds that we pull it out to use it.

I bought a twin/day bed with trundle for my sewing room--need an extra bed for when g-boys here, but needed the space for my cutting table which sits in center of room. The trundle is great! I stalled on getting a mattress and use it for stashing part of my stash!

My girls grew up with day beds - it was great for when they had friends come over or we had out of town guests. But when they grew up and left home we got rid of them. I have a full size bed in one room because it was a family heirloom (it has been in the family since 1859) and the other room (my sewing room) we had a murphy bed installed.

I used to have an extra bedroom with a double bed in it. I loved that room. I changed the quilts monthly and the room was beautiful. I’m just not sure why you want to change it.

Our daughter has this bed. I slept on it for almost two months when I was visiting her and loved it. I found it to be very comfortable and having the drawers underneath very convenient. I've been wanting to get one for myself ever since!

I think daybeds are wonderful. They are also comfortable.

We have a day bed with trundle. The day bed is extra tall, I use bed risers under the legs. The trundle has a frame that pops up to a regular bed height. A day bed is harder to make than a regular bed but I only have to make the bed if someone stays and that's only a few times a year. We had a double but that didn't leave much room for any thing else. Now there's plenty of room for a home office. Before I had a design table I used the bed as a design space. The quilt hangs down because of the extra height and I could pin blocks to it.

I have 3 twin beds, 2 double beds and one day bed in our attic rooms. Bought a beautiful quilted bed cover and shams for it. Beautiful. When the gkids and ggkids were todlers, we pulled the trundle out and were not afraid of them falling on the floor. They usually decided to sleep on the trundle. Who knew?

If you lived closer, I'd give you one. My inlaws (or outlaws depending on the day) have one in the house they've moved out of to live in assisted living and we're getting rid of the stuff in the house.
