Daylilly pods/seeds
 

I have some black seeds from my daylillies. I want to use them but don't want to go through the drying and freezing part etc. to save for Spring planting. Can I just put the seeds in the ground now?

well I can't answer that but I think I would just save the seeds and plant later. I'm not familiar with freezing them.

Have never frozen seeds. I think if you just leave them out that would be sufficient 'drying'. My daylilies just multiply like other lily varieties...essentially bulb splitting. If you were closer...or don't mind driving to NJ...I could stand to thin my daylilies!

What a coincidence, yesterday I was given some day lillie seeds and googled how to start them off - lots of ideas, obviously depends on where you live which works best as they are not the easiest to grow from seed!!! I have come to the conclusion that splitting a clump as NJ Quilter suggested is alot easier and you wouldn't have to wait a couple of years for the flowers.

i put mine in a baggie and put in fridge. about a few weeks ago. will see if they grow next year.

All you ever wanted to know about propagating daylily seeds. Daylilies are my favorite flowering plant. I have over 100 named varieties including and old orange one (Fulva) that originated from my great grandmother.
