Deep pockets

I hate the fact that women's pants either have no pockets or very shallow pockets. I would just like to find a pair of jeans that have front pockets deep enough to store my phone. Either it doesn't fit or, if it does manage to fit in the pocket, it will be right at the hip joint so that you can't sit down comfortably. Does anyone know of a brand of women's jeans with deep pockets (not those ugly cargo type pockets)?
Since men's jeans have deep pockets, I tried a pair of my DH's jeans to check the fit but his are bigger than I would need so I couldn't tell if they would look right on my curves. I used to buy men's jeans by the waist size when I was young and skinny but alas those days are long gone.

I hear your pain - I so agree with you. I have one pair that I could not even put a credit card or license into a pocket!!

While pricey, I have found that LL Bean Jeans have "real" pockets!!

Your post is timely as just last night I stumbled on a youtube, and there are several others, of how women's pants have too shallow pockets and how to increase the pocket size so your phone will fit in. I looked first at the video on HelloSewing.com before watching a few others, each a bit different, on youtube. Think I'll try one of the suggestions for expanding the depth on my women's pants.

Have a pair of men's IZOD jeans that fit nicely and love wearing them with the wonderful deep pockets. So deep there is no chance the phone can fall out.

I just checked and their boot cut jeans have a 7" pocket! OMG! I'm buying their jeans next time.

LOL, I thought this thread was going to be about the high price of fabric now. ;)

ha! Oh for the games our minds play on us! :)

As for the IRL pockets that are too small .... I have opened them up, and added extensions to the bottoms/insides. Some interesting quilt fabric gets hidden in there at times!! However, it can create bulk, so you may want to look for a thinner but durable fabric instead of our quilting cottons. Have done the same with jackets that have faux pockets!

When I was still working, I found black jeans that looked good, fit well, and had front pockets big enough for my phone. Every year the store would feature a sale - buy one, get one half price - and I would buy four pairs. I wore those pants every single day at work and since they were all alike, there was no telling whether I was re-wearing yesterday's. But, wear spots appeared where the corners of my phone met the pockets. Carrying a phone in a pocket doesn't do justice to any style and isn't easy on fabric. The pants have been discontinued and I'm glad to have retired so I'm not struggling so much with what to replace them with. As it is, I don't need so many.

Thanks. There's an LLBean store about a half hour away from me. I'll go check them out.

It seems the pants in the shops now that are not jeans but pull ons have the deep pockets. Gauze, linen and knit ones. I love gauze pants. So easy to wear.

RedGarnet222 06-10-2025 12:19 AM

That is so funny! I just sewed down all of my everyday jeans front pockets and cut the inside pockets off. I got tired of them inching up to a bunch on my tummy and bugging me. I think a little bag added to the belt would be my choice anyway. I have made too many butt calls, so this would be my solution. I even did it to my jean skirts too.

"cat"astrophy 06-10-2025 04:13 AM

Pam S...I agree with EVERY word you said 100%!! They used to have nice deep pockets on women's jeans and now I just hate those short pockets they've replaced them with! The clothing companies need to catch up with we who carry I cell phones in our front pockets need to have jeans with pockets of a deeper fit!

Stitchnripper 06-10-2025 07:44 AM

Good ideas here. Some of my pants work and some don't so got a lanyard that attaches to the phone case so can wear my phone across my body. They are plentiful on Amazon. This might work until y'all get the pocket thing figured out.

I have found a source I like. NRA, the National Ropers Association makes my western style I love, USA made, good fabric and well made with snaps on the shirts, with pockets! Of course, not all like western cut products, but I have always loved them.

ptquilts 06-12-2025 09:04 AM

I have "added on" to front pockets on a pair of jeans I like. I don't put my phone in, but my keys. Needs to be deep enough for a small set of keys, is that asking too much? I wonder sometimes (with a lot of clothing items) do they ever make a few samples, give them to real women, and say "Here, wear these for a week and tell us what you think." Of course not.

Fizzle 06-24-2025 04:18 AM

I don’t carry my phone in front packet. I don’t need any additional bulk there!

bearisgray 06-24-2025 06:02 AM

Why women carry purses. Wish I did not need to , though.

This made me think about jeans you like. I had a pair of jeans that must have looked good on me because my oldest grown grandson told me so. -lol well I had them on the day I broke my leg. My daughter rode in the ambulance with us and was in the ER when I stopped them because they were fixing to cut my jeans off me. My daughter couldn’t believe I was upset or worrying about my jeans. She said MOM! The staff said I wouldn’t want them to have to pull them off so I relented , however grudgingly, and I probably cried about my jeans. After that found out both long bones beneath my knee was broken. I was pretty much out of it for 2 days and when I did wake up good, my daughter still was talking about how she couldn’t believe I was worrying about my jeans instead of my leg!-lol I can’t remember anything about the pockets though.

I can relate. If you have as much problem finding a pair of jeans that fit well - it is painful to lose that one pair!

aashley333 07-16-2025 03:33 AM

I said the same thing in an emergency room. "Don't cut off my shorts. I just made them!"

Onebyone 07-16-2025 04:03 AM

I gave up finding favorite jeans. I wear gauze pants in the summer and knit pants in the winter. Both have nice pockets, feel comfortable and look nice enough for casual dress.

RedGarnet222 07-17-2025 02:20 AM

I have lots of brands of jeans. The ones I reach for the most are the gloria Vanderbilt, Amanda style and the Lees. I love the stretch they put into jeans these days. Saves my back from going out on me. I feel your pain losing a favorite pair. Both have decent pocket depth.

Yes, I love those too!! And I can relate to the cutting off clothes in the ER, I lost my favorite T-shirt that way after a car wreck - it was hand-painted with a smiley-face sun and palm trees.

ETA- I think stretch denim is one of the great inventions of the era!!

Stitchnripper 07-18-2025 01:24 PM

I would love to wear Gloria Vanderbilt jeans. But my body has too many hips in relation to waist and sadly not for me. Not without trying.
almost a funny story now a few years later and she is mostly fine but a quilting friend was in a very serious wreck with a lot of serious injuries and we heard later that she was able to say to the ambulance people "don't cut my bra off- it is new". It came from liviraelingerie.com which was featured a bunch of years ago on lifetime on the show Double Divas. It is very close to me but I have yet to go. They can make a bra for anyone and on the show made a contraption for a goat who was stepping on her own udder.

[QUOTE=Stitchnripper;8694200 . . . . . . They can make a bra for anyone and on the show made a contraption for a goat who was stepping on her own udder.[/QUOTE]

That could be painful!

My mother was taken to the ER because she fell and broke her hip. She's telling the nurse to not cut her pants off because they were her favorite.

lberna 07-22-2025 05:10 AM

As for men's pants with deep pockets, just remember they also buy pants according to waist and length. And, they buy dress shirts according to neck and sleeve length. We women have to take what's there.

Onebyone 07-22-2025 05:11 AM

When I find a piece of clothing or shoes I want to wear all the time I buy all I can of it, same color or not. I am set for clothes, shoes, and underwear for life. I don't have to go shopping anymore unless I want to. I have one funeral outfit, one dressy outfit, and one nice dress coat.
