Deer crossing

Last week my DH and I went for a few day get away to Philadelphia , PA. I was listening to the news they where talking with a call in listener regarding postings of deer crossings. She was quite upset that they would put deer crossing signs on the highway. She did not understand why they did not put them in a place where there is less traffic. She went on to argue the point that people can not just stop, for deer that will be crossing on the highway and that they need to put them ( crossing signs) in a place with less traffic.. Well I wasn't sure I was hearing the caller correctly, what I understood was that she was saying is basically the signs where put up to let the deer read so they knew where to cross safely. Well the news people clarified what she was saying a and yep that's exactly what she meant. She went on to say that they should put the deer crossing signs in an area like they put children crossing signs in a less traffic area so the cars can stop more easily. I could not stop laughing, that is after I clarified what I thought I heard with my DH. The news people had a really hard time keeping straight faces also.

I'd seen this earlier. I can't believe some people are so stupid.

She has called into various radio shows with her deer crossing concern. I don' think she is for real.

If she is for real, she's a nut case.

nygal, glad to hear you are ok.

I have heard this is made up. If it is true I sure wish someone would teach our deer to read. We have deer crossing signs around here but, our deer can't read, they cross where ever they want. Last week we saw one that had been hit, car was being loaded onto a tow truck with front end damage. No sign there but, it still crossed the highway.

Even my sons have heard it - apparently it's an Internet sensation. One son thinks she must be pulling everyone's leg - no one would think the deer can read!

Doesn't anyone else remember Jay Leno telling the story about a guy who wrote in to a paper and wanted the deer crossings moved? I think it was about a year or so ago. DH and I laughed at him telling it. So when this story of the lady went around, it seemed like it was just a take on that original. Sounds like a gag to get a few laughs and make the way around the internet. Which it has.

Yup, got the same email. .Bet it's just a spoof.
Hit my first deer ever 2 yrs ago, a 10 point, 200Lb. buck, sheriff needed to come destroy it. He was shaking his head in disbelief, he was an avid deer hunter, he had been waiting years to bag his first 10 pt. buck and I went and found him on a major highway. Almost totaled my car..

Too funny! I kid you not, I worked with a girl whose sister was driving with a friend. She got a flat tire about a mile from their destination. She told her friend " It's ok, we can make it. It's only flat on the bottom of the tire." LOL!!!!

some people will do anything, and has to be heard no matter how silly they sound.

I lived the first 30 years of my life in Philadelphia, please don't think that the people of Philadelphia are that stupid.
It only takes one crazy person and every town has one, to give us all a bad name. lol

I listened to the called on youtube and then a later call from the same woman when the DJ explained that the sign was there for the drivers. She said that after she thought about it that 'of course' that did not make sense that a 'deer could not read', but that she truly in the beginning thought that the sign was to identify the safe crossing place just like around a school! LOL

I'm in Ohio too and that is too funny

caspharm 11-01-2012 07:27 PM

It was very funny. I gave it to the radio people for not laughing "in her face" and they did call her back a week later to talk to her again.

I lived in NH most of my life and we had Moose Crossing signs up north. I'll have to go on Youtube to hear it. I'm now in Ohio and I've never seen so many deer. I drive my mother around and when she sees one of those signs she always looks for the deer. She's 90.

Oh...these people are for real. I have one living 2 doors over from me. She is in the process of building a 2 story house for them. With heat and AC. Any stray animal she sees, see takes and puts in the house or one her 5 sheds to 'keep from harm'. She tried to get my golden last year.
