department of homeland security

Does the department of Homeland security contact you through e mail. I have a message from them with a temporary password, I think its fake, but I don't know for sure. How do I tell. The site looks legit but I don't know how dhs would know my email address.

I would think it is a scam. Why would they contact anyone through emails?

copy a unique section of the email and paste it in Snopes.com -- they will tell you if it's a scam

Sounds like a scam to me. This is a government agency, why would they use email?

I think if they really wanted to get a hold of you, they would do it in writing, in a registered letter. (Just like the IRS.) Or, they would show up at your house with the proper credentials.

It sounds like a SCAM!

There has to be a way to report this to DHS. Verifying it with Snopes.com is not always a reliable venue. I would find a way to report it to the proper agency.

This might be a place to start:

Do not click on the password link, your computer will be under someone else's control, and they will have access to all your other passwords, banking details etc. There must be a way to forward this mail to Homeland security. Hopefully you have malware protection on your computer?

do not click on ANY links in the email. When your mouse is hovering OVER the link, look in the lower left of the screen and you will see where it will direct you to. Bet you anything it is NOT the DHS.

I agree, SCAM, SCAM, SCAM - run don't walk away.

Also agree - copy some text from the email and paste it into Google. That will tell you a lot.

Scam, just like the emails or phone calls from the IRS.

Stitchnripper 02-22-2018 11:47 AM

Scam for sure
