If you did, do you know why? Do you know what it represents? Did you salute our flag if you were lucky enough to see a parade? Did you give thanks to our Veterans. When was the last time you said “I appreciate what you did ” to a Veteran for serving our country?
In Flanders Fields by John McCrae, May 1915 In Flanders fields, the poppies blow between the crosses, row on row, that mark our place; and in the sky the larks, still bravely singing, fly scarce heard amid the guns below... We are the Dead. Short days ago we lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, Loved, and were loved, and now we lie In Flanders fields... Take up our quarrel with the foe: To you from failing hands, we throw the torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die we shall not sleep, though poppies grow In Flanders fields... |
Thank you

Nice tribute.

Yes, I did. And I have a tiny, very old book with poems and this one is there.
It always made me weep, just a little, since my kinfolks have been military or security since our country has been a country. Straight from other places, they went into the military and fought against their kin in the "old country" because they had become Americans, and a real American fought for their beloved new land. |
I didn't buy a poppy today, but I do plan on going to a Decoration Day/Memorial Day service tomorrow.

Nice to see that In Flanders Fields has been adopted south of the border too. It often plays a role in our Remembrance Day services, each November 11th.
Here's a little more about John McCrae, the author. http://guelph.ca/museumsites/mccrae/...ohn_mccrae.htm |
Thank you. Good job.

Did you know "In Flanders Field" was written by a Canadian Doctor during World War 1 , the day after he witnessed the death of his friend. When I was young we had to memorize it for Remembrance Day in November! I still remember most of it by heart!

I bought one on Saturday.
Thank you to all our military and families past, present, and future. Your sacrifices have made our contry what it is today. Remember freedom isn't free, it cost someone something. Debbie daughter of an Army Vet mother of an USAF Vet aunt of an USAF Vet |
