She used to come in a kit. can't find those either. someone said I could buy coffee filter disc's and dye them . sounds like a lot of messey work to do it that way. Mine was made from filters for straining raw milk, I think. The "milk pads" were white and the yarn was purple. I thought she was beautiful!

DebraK 07-04-2010 04:53 PM

My mom had one that my grandmother made of milk strainer pads. We had a dairy when I was little. Mom still has the doll but the dress is long gone.

Oh my goodness i forgot all about those. I was a farmer's daughter and remember sneaking to the barn and "stealing" the milk filters. I can't remember how the dolls even looked, but remember trying to make them. Hope you kind them and can post a pic.

OK for the first time in ages I feel really young. LOL. I am 54 and never even heard of those dolls. Of course, raised in the city. I remember crocheted ones. I'd like to see a picture if ya'll ever find it. GOod luck.

here's a source. They are called Radid Flo Disks. You can try using Google for other sites.

I think they were called 'milk disc bed dolls. I remember seeing one in my Aunt June's house when I was little. I doubt there are any kits left, but someone might have a pattern. I have a friend or two who collect vintage patterns for dolls. I'll see what I can find out.

Ditter43 07-04-2010 09:36 PM

You can order the pattern from www.Anniesattic.com

Gwyn 07-04-2010 09:41 PM

DebraK has the link for the right pattern. If you need an 8" doll, I think I probably have one or two.

lisainmo 07-05-2010 06:20 AM

E-How.com has all the directions for making these. I also used to have one of those when I was little..Brings back memories..maybe I should get busy and make one for each of my grandaughters.

raptureready 07-07-2010 12:33 PM

http://crafterscommunity.com/forum/d...lter-doll.html Here's the directions, you need rapid flow milk filters. You might try a farm supply store especially if you live near Amish country. They might have them. They'd probably only be in white but you could use different colored yarn.

You can also find them on ebay. I don't think they'd be that hard to dye, just dip them in some ritz dye, rinse them out and lay them out on an old towel to dry. Maybe not.

My aunt had a beautiful doll like this made of circles cut from handi-wipes.

Gwyn 07-07-2010 03:14 PM

How big in diameter are the circles? Couldn't you use fabtic with pellon ironed on the back?

zennia 07-07-2010 04:05 PM

I remember those. Hope you find one.
