We had Corelle when I was a kid and its OK and it is lightweight, but I prefer the heft and colors of my Fiestaware. Like you, I smile when I open my cupboards!

I haven't lost any in 10 years to breakage or chips, and since mine are all colors I can add any piece I see that strikes my fancy.

I bought Corelle dishes a few years ago and got away from
my heavy dishes....love the Corelle... comes out of the dishwasher great...I got mine at the Outlet store and bought
just plates, bowls, dessert plates...we don't use the cups
and saucers that come with a set...

I have white Corelle, and have for years. But, if you use a dishwasher, and it has rusty areas on the racks, and you're too lazy to coat them, and not willing to do something, like reroof the house, for your husbasnd so HE can coat them, the edges of the plates get a rusty mark on them. Oh, and if you're too lazy to scrub the rust off (will it even come off?) it makes a polkadotted edge stack in the cupboard

Corelle Ware is very durable ...and forgiving...and might bounce if you have a cork or rubber floor! :D

Here's something else I remember from my days at Pfaltzgraff. It seems like the type of flatware you have makes a difference in marking on your plates. And stangely, the better your flatware, the more marks it leaves. Apparently, the flatware leaves a tiny "trail" which shows up as a scratch on the dishes. Some dishes are more prone to this. I remember the matte finish patterns like Folk Art or Tea Rose marked worse than a highly glazed pattern. I know this doesn't help in getting the marks off, but thought it might help when choosing a new dish or flatware pattern.

Yes when they do break it is in a million pieces. The few times I had to clean them up it was in the kitchen with a vinyl flooring, I swept really good, then took some wet paper towels and wiped up everywhere to get the tiny fragments. I also told the kids to not come into the kitchen barefooted for several days.

Corelle does not chip. I have used it in my home my entire adult life. You can even cook with it in the oven. My original set was the "Old Town Blue". When I had to start over in 2005, I went to goodwill, and was able to get the equivalent of a complete set (many patterns) for next to nothing. I needed dishes and at that moment, I could not afford all new. I am still using them since we do no entertaining. My daughter just finished collecting her set called "Tapestry". The only one that ever broke, was when it was dropped on concrete. The shattering sound it made was real impressive. lol!

I agree. Another place to get very nice dishes of all types is Old Time Pottery. Even my DH likes to shop there. :) He mentioned it when I told him about this topic. :)

I have this problem with the ones that have a design. I use only the plain white or beige Corelle.

My flatwear leaves black marks on my Corelle also.
