with buying fabrics? I really don't think I do. I have a small stash compare to most quilters I know.

Well, I'm asking b/c my DH just finished my sewing room and as he was helping me moving my "stash" from another room to my sewing room. He said "this is insane. I think you may have a problem."

First of all, my "stash" fit one bookcase with three shelves. I do have project in my mind for all my problem. It's not like I buy to just stash it. I haven't got around to finishing up, that's all. lol...

bearisgray 10-11-2009 06:32 AM

Not yet, anyway.

tlrnhi 10-11-2009 06:33 AM

Ummm.......nope, no problem that I can see.
Your hubby DEFINITELY doesn't want to come to my house to see my stash!

Baren*eh*ked_canadian 10-11-2009 06:43 AM

nor mine, lol!
I have a couple of rubbermaid bins full, and two dressers full (that's 16 large drawers full) and a few bags here and there, and some still hidden in the trunk of my car. I buy because I like the faric, not because I have specific plans for it, now THAT's a problem, lol!

tlrnhi 10-11-2009 06:45 AM

I have a couple dressers full. Some in bags. Nothing in the van, took it out. I have some on the dining table. Washed it and then folded it, keep forgetting to bring it upstairs.
When it's time to pack my room, I'll have to take pics of all the boxes I pack the fabric in. I pack it myself, that way, I know grubby paws haven't touched it.

bearisgray 10-11-2009 06:47 AM

I would pack it myself to avoid commentary.

But then there would be the matter/issue of all those boxes.

patricej 10-11-2009 06:48 AM

YES! you definitely have a problem.

PROBLEM: a spouse who does NOT grasp the concept of "stash"!

get him to a shrink. FAST!!!!!

mommaB 10-11-2009 06:56 AM

HEAR!! HEAR!!!
He doesn't have a collection of fishing gear? Tools? Brewing equipment? Sports memorabilia? Camping equipment? Hunting stuff? etc?!!!

Tell him its better than keeping a ready supply of a variety of men

BellaBoo 10-11-2009 08:08 AM

Your problem is him thinking you have a problem. :D My response would be to go buy more fabric.

Ninnie 10-11-2009 08:27 AM

look up some of the pictures on here of others stashes, and show him, then explain how you don't have enough yet! :D :D Also, if he collects anything, take pictures o that and show him.

amandasgramma 10-11-2009 08:29 AM

Oh, lordy...he wouldn't want to see mine, either!!! BTW -- what does his garage look like??? :?: Every time my DH says something about my craft room/stash, I point him to his garage...

jamh 10-11-2009 08:35 AM

I say if yours is a problem i have a HUGE PROBLEM! I have a walk-in closet (5x4) with wall to wall shelves full to the top and four rubermaid totes stuffed. lol!!! He's lucky that yours is what it is!! Good luck with it growing into more!

mimisharon 10-11-2009 08:40 AM

Do you have a problem? Let me walk you through my home, in my sewing room are three bookcases, one is full of Quilting books, quilting magazines, and my radio to sew by. The other two are full of different fabrics, sorted by color/size. I have two plastic three drawer bins, full of fabrics, three baskets, two boxes, and another smaller three drawer bin of scraps (really gotta do something with them one of these days.) There are three under bed rolling tubs of fabric, two tubs in my closet, and several boxes, bags, of designated fabric with patterns.

YOU don't have the problem, I do! But I wouldn't have it any other way!!

Best deal I can tell you is to never pass one up! My husband had guns, ammo (enough to make me regret the whole gun thing,) fishing rods, reels, fly rods, etc, and I'm not even going to tell you about all the tools that he rarely used. Two boats and all the trimmings, two trucks and all the trimmings. He never fussed about me bringing in fabric, any notions, or a sewing machine. It wasn't in his best interest!

I don't take pictures of my stash anymore because I feel overwhelmed with guilt for not sewing every minute of awake time.

Enjoy it and don't let him put you in a state of panic, you've only JUST begun!!

joeyoz 10-11-2009 10:04 AM

Oh Lulu, he hasn't seen a problem yet. LOL Has he looked at his own stash of "stuff"? Men! When my DH says anything, I just point out all of his "stash" and he usually just gets this stupid smirk on his face and shuts up. LOL    If that doesn't work I sic my SIL on him. She likes me better anyway. LOL

PamH 10-11-2009 12:33 PM

My hubby loves tools and love fabric shopping, we make a good combo. lol We both know when we retire, in about another 12 years, we will have somthings to keep us busy. I work for fabric!!!

Jim's Gem 10-11-2009 12:50 PM

I don't think you have a problem. I have a "small" stash, (well maybe not that small) Fabric calls my name I need to buy it and touch it and look at it in my sewing room. I have a whole wall of cabinets filled as well as a few (a dozen or so) Large rubbermaid tubs full in the garage. I love being able to walk into my sewing room and just pull all the fabrics needed to make a quilt!!!

sew_lulu 10-11-2009 12:57 PM

Wow... I guess I don't have a problem! I need to buy more fabrics so he'll know what having a problem is like! lol

LOL..love this answer!
He'll have to wait in line, to see the doc, behind my hubby!
I was copying a pattern, and he wanted to know if there was anything good on the board...I'm a little busy...
hubby: "why? your not going to make it?"
well, duh! I might need it one day, lol! silly man

I agree with you. My stash will keep me busy when I retire. I may need to live to 120 to use it all, but that's OK with me. :D

great idea, Ninnie. I have a thread called:
Want To See What Hubby Calls My Cave?

If he thinks you have a lot of fabric...get him a chair, before he sees mine,...and it has grown since then!

that's what I do!
my home-cave is 11 x 13, his garage is 20 x30!
He has a motorcycle, a truck, a small tractor, several mowers,...can't even remember all the junk he has...and that's the big stuff, and he's going to buy another mower, pretty soon!
I DON'T WANT TO HEAR IT :?
Don't talk about my stuff, I won't talk about yours, honey.
Dollar for dollar, I haven't caught up yet...but I'm steady working on it :!:

ania755 10-11-2009 08:33 PM

Its not a problem...Its an addiction but there is no cure....

Shadow Dancer 10-11-2009 08:39 PM

I wouldn't say you have a problem...tell hubby to come see my stash! lol I have 9 large bins full, four half size bins, some in the laundry room that is washed and dried but I haven't retrieved it yet, and a large tote on wheels that is full! LOL

Nope, you haven't gotten to where it's a problem! lol :)

S.D.

Barb M 10-11-2009 09:10 PM

hubby used to grumble bout my fabric, then i'd retort something back. Solution, was very very simple!!! When i get fabric now, i make sure he notices my Extreme pleasure! LOL LOL He likes it when i'm happy, cus happy me means happy him lol lol It works like a charm :) :) :) And now, if i'm grumpy, he'll say, hey, wanna go shopping??? LOL LOL :)

Don't think he wants to hear this comment! lol

Maride 10-12-2009 07:12 AM

I am sorry to disagree with everyone here. Yo DO have a problem. You have only one bookshelf and a project in mind for every piece. To me that is not a stash. A stash is fabric you got for no reason at all, that you will later use as you see fit. If you have a project in mind for every piece, they are not available for "emergencies".

The solution for your problem is to go shopping, but now for the stash. The real stash! Because you like it!

amma 10-12-2009 08:18 AM

I don't see any problem  Maybe we could all email you pictures of our stashes...he may send you out shopping to help you "catch up"

lol.... love to keep shopping.

pennyswings 10-12-2009 10:50 AM

I don't see a problem. I don't have a big stash either, about the size of yours, maybe less.
Men and people who don't quilt will not understand a quilter and their love for fabric. Each piece is usually brought with a future project in mind, or just because it is so beautiful you just could not let it go with out buying some. I mean after all once it is gone you will never see it again. LOL

Thank you so much for the explanation...!!! I really didn't know there is a diference....Now I feel much better

littlehud 10-12-2009 12:08 PM

I just got back from the fabric store. DGD was picking out fat quarters for herself and pointing out fabric with big floral prints because she knows it like it and my DD was running over to tell me they had solid colored cotton on sale and I must be running low. OK, maybe all my fabric is an addiction but these two are my enablers. (Oh, by the way I always take them with me.    That way I can say they made me do it. )

STAR 10-12-2009 12:16 PM

Ket your hubby read about all the members on this board and their stashes, and show him some pics of it and their rooms. Then tell him what the lady at the store told me, who that dies with the most wins!!

Hunnib 10-12-2009 12:17 PM

Men don't understand. I'm starting a stash so I don't have that problem yet but if I did have a problem with my husband making comments about my stash, I would have to remind him of all his Harbor Freight purchases that he makes because he has so much "stuff" in his little shop that he can't find the stuff he needs when he needs it. At least quilters usually organize their stuff, lol!

sharon b 10-12-2009 08:21 PM

Problem ? Nope don't see a problem other than what has already been stated ! You need more

Go for it. I have the same Problem.

Bevanger 10-13-2009 04:36 AM

non quilters don't understand our need for stash. i make alot of scrappies so for me the more variety, the more better and colorful

Joan 10-13-2009 06:56 AM

No problem here.....

Find some of those pictures of really big stashes to show your DH and then he'll feel lucky and you can keep shopping

There's nothing greater than getting ready to start a project and find the fabric just waiting for you in your stash!

RedGarnet222 10-13-2009 07:59 AM

My quilting and sewing material has to be a large one. When the snow begins to fly around here, I am not going out there. No way jose!

The other comment I wanted to make was, You have a problem when you buy the same fabric twice because you forgot you already bought it. And it was twice as much as what you needed. LOL!

But then again, it is weird ... Sometimes I swear the fabric multiplies all by itself. I think to myself ... Where did this come from? I don't remember buying this ... Now that is a problem! Sleep buying. LOL!
