I used a belly band on my babies until the navel cord fell out. When my granddaugher was born no one mentioned the band to my DD but we made one. It's not very tight or restricting so I don't know why it isn't used anymore. The baby Dr. told me it will prevent the navel from being an outie. My DD's sis in law didn't use one on her kids and everyone has prodruding belly buttons that her girls are ashamed of.

i've not heard of those. both my girls ended up with innies anyway.

My PedDr. said it will help prevent protruding when having excessive strain during bowel movements, something like that. It's been too long ago to remember.

I remember when I had my DD (36 yrs ago) my Mom had me put a half dollar rapped in gause in the belly band. She still has it in her jewelry box. She used it on both grand childern.

belly bands are still available, but not popular. As far as an "innie or an outtie" is concerned, it has more to do with how/ and where the cord is cut.
We were taught in nursing school( back when they still used them....) that belly bands were simply to protect the cord from getting knocked off prematurely by the diaper and clothing changes.

Never heard of em. Oldest has a partial outie...i love it. He's indiferent to it unless i'm teasing him about it (he is 13). Other two have innies

I have heard of them before. I think my mamaw and papaw used them on my mom and her siblings. My MIL used one on my neice when her belly button fell off to soon.
