I'm wondering if anyone has AAA. If so, have you used it? What have you used it for? Have you used it for discounts on online shopping or at restaurants or local stores?

I get the offers in the mail from time-to-time. I was thinking about sending it in.

I used to have it. It came in handy for planning trips. The maps etc were free to members, AND we got discounts on movies. Jim and I saw "Titanic" 11 times and it was only about $5.00 each time.

When I got my eyeglasses, they were 25% off, and two towings last summer more than paid off the membership. Theme parks and hotels also offer discounts. Look at their website or local office and see what other perks are available in your area.

I have AAA, last year they towed my SILs truck and changed the tire on my DHs truck. I also have their auto & homeowner's insurance, they are the best insurance company to deal with. DH totalled his truck last year they assessed his truck on wednesday and we picked up a check on thursday at the local AAA office and hour away, now that's service.

Got it. AAA with RV+. Bought it when we got our first camper. And yes, I have had to use it. Car died on me going to Dr. one day summer before last. Called AAA, tow truck came and took it to my mechanic. All n/c because I had not used up my mileage. Have also gotten AAA discounts on some of our camping rates.

I've used it for dead batteries, trip planning and discounts on park tickets, hotels and rental cars. It's nice knowing that if I have any car issues, I can just give them a call no matter where I am.

Yes, it has been great, many years I used it alot. Now not as much but the knowledge I have it is worth the worry of breaking down, flat tire, dead battery etc... My mom got it for me when I moved out, I got it for my grown kids.

We have it, and have for years since they helped us with a rental car company problem. We reserved and rented a car from one of the BIG car rental agencies. We arranged through our phone reservation to drop the car at a second airport a week later. No problem when we made that reservation, no problem when we picked the car up...then when our credit card bill came they attempted add a charge for the drop elsewhere, a HUGE, HUGE fee -- around $1,500 claiming that they could find no record of the second drop reservation. No matter what we did the rental agency was not going to drop that charge. Hubby got the idea to call AAA to ask for advice. Although we didn't make our reservations through AAA guess what, they got involved and the rental company backed off completely and dropped the extra charge! This one "complimentary" service by AAA has paid for their membership fees many many times over.

We booked a trip to Hawaii through them and that was wonderful, and we saved quite a bit.

When our daughter was a teenager she ran out of gas on the freeway while her dad and I were out of town. AAA took care of her quickly. Also, we've had to be towed on a couple of occasions and AAA has always served well.

For those reasons we continue to keep their service and do recommend them.

So, if you have an RV, you need a different plan than the "any vehicle you drive or any vechicle you are riding in"? We have a motor home.
Do you have a certain amount of mileage they cover you for?

We have it but I forget about the discounts that are offered, lol. But I did use it at UPS when I was sending packages.

You need to have the plus plan for rv or motorcycle coverage.

well i just signed up and used it twice already. not for other places but for a flat tire and a dead battery two weeks later.
i always forget that i have it or AARP or any other place that says you get discounts at other companies.

Since you have a Motorhome it is probably considered a vehicle. We have a travel trailer. Check with AAA and they can tell you. I would definately have it if we traveled a lot in a motorhome.

By AAA "insurance" it sounds like you're talking about their roadside assistance plan, but they have insurance, too.

I've had both. I've used the roadside assistance for towing a few times over the years, once after a car accident, a couple of times for flats. (My tires seem to attract nails.)

They send you a magazine every month or so, with driving tips, travel articles, ads for their products and so on.

I used their discount on a rental car once.

I've gotten their free maps and US travel guides and have used their hotel discounts many times (though AAA discounts don't usually get you the best hotel rates if you're a real bargain hunter).

I've gotten discounts on the admission cost of a few tourist attractions.

I'm sure I got one or two store discounts, but most of their shopping discounts seem to be for online shopping only now. For example, you can use it for a discount on BarnesandNoble.com, but not at their bookstores.

And, as I said, I had their car insurance for a few years. They gave me the best deal when I lived in NJ, but not when I moved to PA.

A couple of things to be aware of:
1. Not all AAAs are equal, though they try to be. They are regional, and what your membership fee covers may be different.
2. The most basic membership gives you a tow for a distance of only 3 miles, I believe. (Again, this may vary by region.) For a higher rate, they'll cover towing up to 100 miles. I only just learned that you only get 3 tows a year. I'd never heard of that before. Not that I need a tow that often, but what if I did? I was very unhappy to learn that.
3. Speaking of car insurance, your car insurance policy may offer towing, at least, after accidents. MY policy does. So check and then decide whether to add on AAA. (I still get it every year.)

I have had it for about 15 years, and know I've gotten my moneys worth with jump starts, flat tires, keys locked inside, and tows. Fortunately they weren't always my car! But knowing it's there when I need it is a great feeling. Also have used the discounts offered by merchants, but there are less and less of those every year. If you use it when booking motels, you will usually get a better rate than any other discount out there.

:oops: Yes, Lisanne, I meant the roadside assistance, not the insurance. We are quite happy with the insurance company we have. We do have towing. I was thinking it would be great to have it in someone else's vehicle, and some of the other benefits.

I don't have their insurance but do use their roadside services.
We had several years where we maxed out the towing limits. We now have the plus service with more tows and 100 miles. We love to use their maps and "Triptiks" when we travel.

Jim's Gem, I have the plus service, and I was told it just buys a farther tow, not more of them per year. Still only 3/year, at least in the mid-atlantic region. :?

I have my Hot Rod insured through AAA. Nobody I could find at the time would insure it because it was not completed and driving yet and I wanted to go ahead and put insurance on it. I have full coverage for a 1951 Ford that is a 50's custom and its only $325 a year with no mileage restrictions. Come to find out Progressive is the insurer and when I originally called them they told me they didnt insure a car that old.

The first time I used it, broken down on the road, it was worth every penny for membership for the next five years. Free tow, free assistance, peace of mind with two kids in the car. If you don't have OnStar then you need AAA if you drive out of family or friends range.

I don't know about other states, but AAA in Rhode Island offers Registry of Motor Vehicle services like renewing licenses, registrations, etc., which is sure quicker and easier than dealing with the DMV. That alone is worth the cost of membership. Also, I have had to use them for towing and jump starting my car. And I have used discounts at Payless Shoes and other stores.

I've had AAA since I started driving. I've used it for trips, money orders, travelers checks, discounts, maps. I also have the road service which has really been helpful over the years. I got a 100mile tow free. I really like it.

I have had AAA for several years. Yes, I have used it and been really glad I had it. We have three adult children and each one gets their AAA renewed for their birthday gift. It has saved them time and time again. Also with two daughters it saves a lot of worry if and when they have broke down, or had a flat.

We've only used our roadside plan a couple of times for actual services...but the peace of mind we have with that card in hand is well worth the cost. On a trip from Texas to Oregon, the keys got locked in the truck while enjoying some northern California small town atmosphere...that locksmith call was worth whatever they wanted but I was really glad that they accepted the plan. That little feature about covering you in any vehicle can be a great stress reliever too...not everyone will be as prepared as you and there's no polite way to ask an acquaintance about their coverage, now is there? LOL Not relevant to me, but, if I had a kid with a car I'd be getting it for them for my own peace of mind.

I've had the roadside for twenty years. Have the Premier. It will pay for use four times a year and up to 200 miles. Have it for my college kid too. You can add grown children who live with you or are still students for a reduced fee. She is always locking her keys in, getting stuck in mud, etc. You do not have to be in your own car to use. Found one use a year pays for it.

We had AAA homeoweners insurance when we were flooded several years ago and between Fema and AAA we were able to put our house back into a nice environment and it was not a big deal getting the money to repair the damages and replace the appliances and replace the walls and insulation. We also had some burgulary in our shop area and were very happy with the way they helped us recover our loss. I still have AAA road service and have been very impressed when I have to call for help on the road and I do take advantage of all the maps and travel info them give out to members. I always renew our auto liciences with them, beats waiting in line at the DMV and we get the stickers as soon as we pay.

We have had AAA for many years and use the discounts wherever possible. We travel a lot by car cross country and this has come in handy not only for reduced rates for hotel reservations but also for discounts to attractions. A few years ago I was traveling alone to WA state from CA and my car battery died in OR. AAA came out and started my car and checked my battery. I felt so glad I had AAA in a strange city with no one around to help.

all of the above plus discounts on hotel/motel rooms, free barclay's checks (like traveler's checks, only a different company), money exchange (from usd to something else - you have to give them a heads up). we've also used them as travel agents. depending on the staff, they may or may not be the best at that.
we always get the trip tix. we never buy their products, like money belts or those things. they're grossly overpriced.

I have had AAA since I started driving in 1986. My dd, when she got her first car had the intelligence to immediately purchase AAA although its taken about 5 years to convince my DH's kids that its a worthwhile investment.

Unless you live in a congested area, you need the 100 mile towing plan (when i lived in NYC, i got by with the lower, but when I moved to VA, I upped it and added DH as a second card holder)

I forget to use it for other discounts, but whenever we start talking about trips, I go onto the site and order street maps from the area....FREE

Maps of locations not around you are hard to find otherwise!!!

We have had it for years. We have used them for dead batteries, fkat tires, towing, Triptiks, maps, hotels discounts, etc.

We found for our small trips we used to take, we could get the triptik and plan our trip aaround that, then we made our own reservations and such. We found it to be cheaper that way.

Once we were going up, I think it is called Fall River Road, in Rocky Mtn. Nat'l Park, which is a one-way road to the top. Our truck died (learned later it was vapor lock), and even tho we were up on 'top 'o the world', we called AAA and they came and towed us back to town.

The piece of mind and now especially since it is really hard for me to change a tire because of my back, they are worth it.

We have it and have used them for years. Changing tires but mostly breakdowns. It's better to have it and not need it then to be without. I guess when you have older cars, one needs it more.
