Where in East Texas? My grandparents lived in Center. There are mahaws growing wild up there - my grandmother used to go out and pick them and make jelly. It is very tart and fruity tasting. Another great jelly is prickly pear jelly. The Mexicans call prickly pears "tunas" (nothing to do with tuna fish!). That is my favorite, I think. |

Well, run, don't walk, to the riverbanks and pick as many as you can. You'll love the jelly! I just had some for breakfast this morning. BTW, it's mayhaw, not mahaw... in my haste I mistyped it. Sorry.

I have heard the same thing about purple hull peas being food for cows, guess those cows get to eat really well :thumbup: .
