Do you plant flowers, flower garden or in pots?

Yes, Yes, Yes, I have lots of flower gardens all over our property. I took a walk this afternoon and my easter lillies are about 13 inches tall now. They came from a start of easter lillies from the farm that my grandma had years ago. So cool to see them in my garden now. My grandma died the day after I was born in 1956 but she lived long enough to know that she had a granddaughter. She died from cancer.

I have lots of perennials and also plant annuals. I have some of the old whiskey barrells full of flowers. I can't wait to go to the garden center and buy my flowers this year.

We moved in November and the yard needs LOTS of work. There are some very crowded Daylillies in front of the garage and some tangled, weedy raspberries behind the garage. There's some ugly ground cover under the big Maple trees in the front yard, a couple of sad looking hostas in front of the front porch, a small cherry tree and a small apple tree in the side yard. That's about it for existing flowers/landscaping. There's also an old raised garden bed, full of grass and weeds. I can't plant anything next to the house until fall because we are going to do new siding this summer and anything I planted would just get trampled. So, I'm going to work on the garden, plant a couple more fruit trees, make a rose garden in the side yard, clean out and prune all the raspberries and dig up all the old, and ugly ground cover. Maybe see if I can save the sad Hostas. Lots to do, it will probably take a few years to get it the way I want. But hopefully, I'll have some veggies this summer!

Since we had to move out of the house into an apartment, I don't have a yard to plant any flowers. I do have a deck though. I could use some suggestions on flowers/plants that would do well in containers. I will miss having the yard, but not all the yard work.

The original plant Kavorkian (sp?) here. Somehow they don't seem to live long without water. I think I had too much gardening as a child, it's something I really don't enjoy.

When I can, I have houseplants. I'm an apartment dweller, and most of my apartments haven't had outside space that got sun.

I expect to be moving again next month, so we'll see what kind of apartment I can find. I would dearly love to do some container gardening - but vegetables, not flowers.

If I ever, ever get a chance to have my own house, I will have lilac and peony bushes, and ground flowers such as narcissus, tulips, irises, etc. <sigh>

How about posting some pictures. Your garden sounds beautiful. Have your ever tried Crocus or Tulips. We had them when we lived in CO and it is so much fun to see them pop up through the snow.

I have grown flowers and vegetable very successfully in containers... Did you know that cucumbers, zucchini and pumpkins can be grown in containers and then you run strings up and securely fasten them, and they will attach to the strings and the vines will hold them upright? It is great if you can place the containers next to a fence or the house. One year my whole patio 15X15 ft was solid veggie containers with just a small walkway winding through them LOL We even had corn growing in buckets :wink: I found some shallow troughs and we grew green onions, baby carrots and radishes in them.
We just had to water more frequently than if they were in the ground. Adding those water absorbing crystals to the soil really helped keep them from drying out so quickly, too.

My Daylillys are about 6" and my Huchera(sp) are about 2" and my sedum I planted last year is about 4". We are going to try and build raised beds next month if funds allow it.
