I just signed up (it's free). Who here uses skype?

Lisanne 01-07-2010 05:19 PM

I don't use it, but I used it in the past, about two years ago. Reception, back then at least, was less than optimal. But it was free.

cutebuns 01-07-2010 05:39 PM

I use skype.

I signed up and use it to talk to my grandchildren, ages 8 and 4. They live about 2200 miles away. I am careful not to try to do it very often, because I want it to remain exciting and not boring. They love it when we do get on together. I watched them open the Christmas gifts that we sent to them. So sweet.

I don't know anything about skyping. Do you use the webcam for this? We use a webcam from time to time. What do you do to skype?

cutebuns 01-07-2010 06:18 PM

Skype is sort of like msn, you need a camera and mic, (though you can chat as well) and it is a free download that you just download and install and sign up for, then you can add family and friends to video live with, and it is free, you can voice only and or video as well,

Maride 01-07-2010 06:42 PM

I was just on it with my daughter. I love it.

amma 01-07-2010 07:06 PM

I have used it and Yahoo in the past...it is a fun way to talk and see the person at the same time :D:D:D

When I used it, we just talked on the phone... I think. No camera, definitely, though that was an option.

I know a few of our European quilters use it.
I have it downloaded on this little lappie but haven't used it as of yet.

judy_68 01-07-2010 07:34 PM

How do I add my family and friends?

nursie76 01-07-2010 08:14 PM

We don't have long distance, so Skype is our main way to talk in the US long distance. It is free. However, since DD is in New Zealand we pay under $10 a month and can talk all we want Skype to landline, very cheap for Skype to cell. If we just talked computer to computer it would be free. We used it on the computer on Christmas with the live webcam. It was really neat to be able to see her.

cutebuns 01-07-2010 08:15 PM

if you search with their email addresses they should show up, you can also search for them with their name or their skype name, they can give it to you, and then you can request that they add you as a contact. You can find the right drop down under tools on the top bar.

deedum 01-07-2010 08:49 PM

I do! Really cool too!

mic-pa 01-08-2010 03:22 AM

I have skype and can talk to my sister and brother in Fl. However if who ever you want to talk to does not have skype you can sign up for $30. a year and talk to anyone on a landline. I love it. Saves $$ on my regular phone bill.

dannypanny 01-08-2010 04:32 AM

I use Skype too. It is a magnificent way of keeping in contact with family and friends. I have the web cam too. It is great to be living in this modern age... ciao

hapytlk 01-09-2010 12:29 PM

Use it. Love it! We get way better reception on Skype than we do on the phone where we live. Just got off from visiting with with one daughter who lives more than half way around the world from us and another who lives about 1800 miles away. There were five of us on at the same time and it was great!

earthwalker 01-09-2010 11:00 PM

We use Skype...most of my husband's family live in Sicily. It is a fabulous way to stay in touch and if you have a webcam, see each other. We had a laugh the other day, it's summer here and my husband went for a swim before dialling his family, he was sitting in his swimmers (no shirt) and his sisters asked him why he was nude! He had to stand up to show them his swimming costume. He has been going back to visit his very elderly parents and intends to again this year....so we also Skype daily if he's away.
