Do You Turn Your Headlights On When It's Raining?
I think it's the law here in Jersey.
Just came back from trip to Massschusetts. We were driving home during a very heavy rain storm and was so surprised that many cars did not have their headlights on. It was only 4pm but the sky was dark grey and with the heavy rain it was difficult to see some of the darker colored cars. DH got off the major highway we were on as we were sure there was going to be a major pile up. Took a local highway until it stopped raining so hard and happy that we made it home to Jersey in one piece. May in Jersey |
I have running lights on my car, but that doesn`t include the rear end... yes, in heavy rain, I turn on my lights!

It's a law here in Alabama. Sometimes if it's really bad we drive with the emergency lights flashing. We had to drive across the bayway last week in a horrible storm. You couldn't see anything but the flashers. I was afraid the wind would throw us into the water. Silly, but it could happen if the wind was bad enough.

It's state law here too, but so many do not follow it.

I live in Oregon and I don't think it's a law to have your headlights on. I sometimes wonder why it isn't. I drive a 2010 Subaru Outback and the lights come on automatically - if I have it set that way. I have never looked at the backend to see if those light up when set to auto - but on a rainy, grey day I just turn them all on - my car is dark grey and I want to be SEEN!

It is a law in NY. My lights are on all te time.

I think it is a state law in Missouri too. I always turn mine on because I want to be seen.

It is the law in California too, but I agree that a lot of people still don't turn them on.

Cars sold in Canada are equipped with running lights, making it easy to follow the lights-on law. After so many years of being accustomed to on-coming lights, US drivers need to be aware that if they're driving without lights many Canadians may not even see them. I know I'm more keyed in on lights than the vehicles behind them. I drove with my headlights on for years before it became law.

It is the law in WI but there are many who don't follow that law. Scares me when the car color matches the wet pavement.
