I usually don't. My mother was that way and I guess old habits die hard.

You can only get botulism if the dent has caused a tiny pinhole in the can. If you open a dented can and foam or liquid spurts out of it don't eat it. Also if the food is discolored, moldy or smells horrible don't eat it. A small dent in a can is ok, but if it's a big deep dent don't eat it. I've eaten lots of food from dented cans and have never gotten sick.

Doh, I read the title as dented cams. I thought a quick spin the the machine would tell you if they work or not, but I waspuzzled on how one would bend one.

Dented cans don't scare me. If it leaks or bulges I would not use it.

The good part, most of that other stuff you can taste or smell (unlike botulism). The number one concern with botulism is a well sealed container that was not processed at a high enough temperature for a low acid food (it won't form in high acid foods). |
If t he dent is a sharp dent I prefer not to buy it. Soft dents I will buy at a discount. Bulges are dangerous. Stay away from them. Call Target and let them know about the dents maybe they will credit you somehow especially since this was a special order.

All 5 new cans are dented. They didn't use any packing at all in the box. I chatted with them and got a refund but I really need the dang chilies.

Restaurants use dented cans, hospitals use dented cans, food kitchens use dented cans. If you have eaten any of these places you have eaten from a dented can.

The large cans of cream of mushroom soup that I bought at beginning of pandemic were not dented, but expired (I noticed as I was preparing dinner). HEB took them back, no problems, but an inconvenience. I don't use cans that are expired, do you?
