does anybody macrame'?

I used to love to make plant hangers but can't find my book and it must not be very popular any more because there aren't that many books out there. does anybody have any patterns to give or sell?

lynnie 03-02-2013 01:51 PM

Not only that, no one at michaels knew what macrame was, even home depot and lows had no cord.

kathy 03-02-2013 03:10 PM

wellI found cord, only one size at Hobby Lobby but no books! I guess I'll just do some free style but I really like to know what it's supposed to look like!

I used to do macrame but don't know if I would be able to do it without a refresher course. I've moved a couple of times and don't know where my books and patterns went to. Have you used google to find information?

I used to many years ago. I am sure I could not do it now with out a book!

I use to make macrame plant hangers about 25 yrs ago. I had a great big roll of jute cord my MI gave me, I donated to GW or SA. I also had tons of rings etc. I use to do lots of crafts but now I just make quilts.

If I still had them I would send them to you-I had quite a few booklets and patterns, macrame cord spools in all colors, a huge amount of jute, wooden beds, rings, etc. Don't know why I kept it so long, but finally dropped it all off at Goodwill a couple years ago.
I have made the plant hangers-single double and triple pot ones. I have made poodle heads, frogs, and I once made a very large lion head. That was in the late 70's. All took a back seat to quilting.

I made plant hangers, owls, and a lampshade back in the day! I think the pattern books went the way of other old crafting stuff. Good luck!

Check on e-bay. I have purchased some of my favorite books that were lost in my move. The cord and bead selections are very small as well. I loved my plant hangers. Fortunately, I am also starting to see more potted plants available -- which is a good thing.

I have some, PM me and we will talk. I never use a pattern, I just start tying. In 96 when I moved to FL from TX I got a bunch of cord on sale at various places and must make some new ones for out porch, big and covered. Be happy to send you some patterns.

Judie 03-04-2013 07:14 PM

Thanks for asking about macrame.. I haven't done any for years.. but recently when I was unpacking some boxes I found some cord I still have.. now, if I can find my books.. I'm going to bookmark this thread so I can find those websites again.. It might be fun to do it again after all these years.

Sheepshed 03-04-2013 09:32 PM

I loved those old jute plant hangers. I have always thought if someone gave them a *push* the hobby would come back... there are so many *expensive* hobbies... outside of a lot of jute cord and a few rngs and big wooden beads, you are back in business LOL

Maybe you can get on google search, --ebay--amazon, for search--macrame books.
