Or do you just try to keep it pretty much done all the time? My grndma washed all the curtains, beat rugs, did windows,,,the whole nine yards. We just sort of do what needs done as it comes along.

When the weather starts to warm up I start getting the itch to clean everything. In the winter I just don't have it in me to do the cleaning so it gets kind of messy.

I just painted my livingroom and hall. From the amount of dust I found I guess I don't/havent cleaned for a while. It sure looks good now! Now to start on the bedrooms :-(

I always major clean in spring and then in the fall......... hate to say but waaaay behind due to sickness.......Dh and I saw a dust bunny sword fight the other nite and he said" I've fallen behind on my cleaning for you" Hey, You take care of me when I'm sick, work, cook and do laundry,,,,,,why would I say anything to you?????? It will be cleaned up when you can get to it.... I've learned there are more important things in life now.....

I'm trying to do it the Flylady way, it was darn hard the way Grandma used to do it. Totally remove everything from a room, even the wall paper, clean and put up new wall paper. I'll admit it was needed since the heating was with wood fireplace and wood kitchen stove. The whole thing must have taken 10 days to 2 weeks, and it was WORK!!!
I'm trying to do it the Flylady way, a little bit at a time, consistently. Not that I'm all the way, but the mere idea of removing all my stash in one day makes me feel weak and in need of chocolate.

I used to do heavy cleaning every October and April. Wash windows, curtains, move everything, etc, etc. Now that I am on walker, thankful just to maintain house. I get the important things done....rest of it..don't sweat it anymore. It might get done one day. :)

I try to clean as I go. About once a year I get a bee in my bonnet and do some heavy cleaning.

Qbee 02-12-2011 08:56 PM

I usually do it right before the holidays as I'm putting out all my Christmas decorations and then again in Spring.

I do and have already started. I painted the kitchen/living room today and wiped everything down (even the places that got splated with paint) so now everything is pretty.. the rest of the house will have to wait until I recover from the going up and down the stepstool a bazillion times and my shoulder quits yelling at me.

I seem to deep(er) clean in January when I put away the Christmas decor and in the early summer when the weather gets warm. I've really relaxed about the cleaning after having kids and now owning a business. There's just not enough time for everything.

The weather is warmed up in Texas. Come and scratch your itch at my house.

sewTinker 02-12-2011 09:17 PM

I do a Major deep cleaning & (re)decorating when christmas is put away. Then when spring jumps through the window, I do another big cleaning involving window treatments, windows, carpet cleaning, painting (when necessary) and exterior house things. then I rest.

Its pretty gloomy here in the winter and not a lot of sunshine so by the time spring does come i NEED to spring clean!

C.Cal Quilt Girl 02-12-2011 09:54 PM

Like it done before Spring :) Wake up one day winters over, not stuck in the house cleaning, still cool enough to enjoy outdoors, and not freeze. JMO

Chasing Hawk 02-12-2011 10:40 PM

I do .........

About 6 times a year.

jajudd24 02-12-2011 10:43 PM

Spring, Fall, Summer, Winter Cleaning.....I get exhausted thinking of it..lol...I do all I can when I have the strength inbetween the times of exhaustion!

pookie ookie 02-12-2011 11:58 PM

I'm more of a Flylady type but I do have massive forced decluttering of other people's mess three times a year.

sew_southern 02-13-2011 12:48 AM

I clean the windows, window sills, cob webs from ceiling corners & shampoo the carpet. But only if the nice Spring sun is shining! :)

craftybear 02-13-2011 01:33 AM

Yes, I enjoy spring cleaning

I can't wait to get the windows open and get the house aired out

I did some major cleaning of wardrobe in December and donated lots of things to a local nursing home, they sure appreciated it and enjoyed the clothes, purses, etc. that I took to them

My windows are dirty, Hurry up Spring!

zennia 02-13-2011 01:47 AM

For me its an all year on going thing. Something always needs cleaned.

Ditto, I was more of a fanatic when I was younger but have discovered that the world won't stop if I don't clean the house!
